im gonna walk you through one of my own designs.. careful.. it might make you a really good ship builder 1

ok first you should pick a price and use a calculator to get what you want. first you chose in this case 100 mill now we know that hull space is 165 credits each so you do 100 mill divided by 165 and this gives you, 606,060.60606060606060606060606061. now we round .. just take away the decimal. 606,060. ok now thats our hull. next we do the powercore. you want to make sure to leave enough space for your systems 100-150 space should do it. on mine i used 605,900 for the weight of my powercore. now to get the price down to a good lvl we do a simple calculation. take 605,900 x 400 - 5279 = 242,354,721. that number will be you energy output. this will make your powercore cost 3 credits. notice that if you increase your output the prices rises and the same the other way, so this is the best it can be. also you can use this calculation on bigger powercores later on so remember it [(weight of core) times 400 minus 5279 equals (power gen)]..  now add your shields and comps. first we will do the shields. generally i like my shields to have a weight of 8.  here are the shields i used and how to make them...

ok so now that we have all that i like to go ahead a buy my ship.. go to the buy screen and find your ship.. now since we are not done with it just buy 0 of them. this is a little trick to get it into the resupply screen and into you view\edit screen to monitor your work. so buy 0 and then add your powercore and your shields but we want more than one of each shield so when you get to the screen where you select the shields you see on the right a text box that says runs. this is just how many are going to be installed.. so we want 2 of the 29%'s, 3 of the 28%'s, and 2 of the 27%'s. that gives us 54% ABS.
now we add the comps in a similar fashion. we want 1 of the 14%'s, 3 of the 13%'s, and 2 of the 27%'s. that gives us 25% ACU. now we go to our view\ edit page and select our ship to see whats on it and how much space is left and how much energy is left.

should look something like this...

ok so now we make our weapon. i like to go with a 1:2 attack to HP ratio so we take our remaining energy and divide it by 3. now i change that number a little but its mostly close so here is my weapon.

now go to the upgrade screen and upgrade your ship with this weapon then go back to your edit page and take the amount of weight and energy left over for your special..

no offense but if you dont know anything about it you probably should not respond to it.. im only asking about defense cause the last update was supposed to make defense worth using again. and since its been worthless for soooo long, i dont know really anything about it. plus i also am wondering  if defense effects marines and what the ratio is for that if anyone knows.

im trying to understand defense better. from what i gather defense protects 5 times the amount of total defense of your ship. this means that if you have 1 defense it will protect for 5 points of damage. now if im right, HP protects 1 times the amount of HP so with 1 HP you are protected from 1 damage. now if defense costs 10 times more than HP with only 5 times the protection what makes it worth using? it would have to be either 5 times the price of HP or 10 times the protection just to make it the same as HP. so what bit of info am i missing here?

keep in mind that if its going to be realistic then the boarding and the killing is happening all at once. the marines from the ships that died are already on enemy ships trying to take over.

i was going to attack someone a few ranks lower than me who had no ships and no neb.. i looked for a truce and did not see the symbol there so i preceeded to start my attack but then i see the screen asking me if i want to pay to break the truce. so i look back at the rankings page and still i dont see the truce symbol.. thats not coll.. i had my hopes up.

it adds up but its still wrong that 45 mill fp in 3 fleets can be killed by 19 mill fp in 5 fleets. they should not have done that much damage.. its just messed up.. ok ill stop whining now 1

i agree with losted.. you cant hide forever and while hiding you cant attack without losing your neb so its not a big deal really.. i personally like the neb from time to time cause it helps to regain a little of what was lost.

your right frank but if you use most of your mining money to buy workers, then you will start to make more money... and like cam said attacking is hard.. that will save your workers from being captured 1

yes warm up for you, but decimation for the rest of your alliance... cam as a leader you need to know when to let someone go that will bring your alliance down.. even when they are your best player.. dark is going down.. and this time when it happens she will stay that way.. hard to beleive you are gonna put all of LOI up on the chopping block for her.. Drakken would be pissed.
