Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: KenquinnTheInsaneOne on May 08, 2009, 06:38:35 PM Its a lie!!!!! its a hoax it can be!!!!! Ive been waiting for DNF since I was 7...
Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: Seither on May 09, 2009, 07:22:28 PM it's not sadly. 3DR is officially dead. We might see a DNF still, as take two still has the publishing rights. but it won't be the same.
I fear those d**n alien bastards finally got Duke. Duke Nukem KIA May 8th, 2009 Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: Chronos on May 16, 2009, 02:37:04 PM Hmm, think about it this way.
If Duke Nukem Forever is still made after this, how awesome of a story would it make? "This game went through thirteen years of development, three game engines, two developers, a lawsuit, and bankruptcy to be released. What did your game go through?" P.S. Take-Two has filed for a legal injunction (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/58651) to, among other things, protect the Duke Nukem Forever source code. This is simultaneously good news and bad news. The question is whether Take-Two actually wants to do something with said code. (Update:) Looking at Apogee's website, I found that their looking for the next live action duke (http://www.apogeesoftware.com/archives/198) to "[represent] Deep Silver and Apogee Software, LLC as the new 'official' Duke Nukem..." Duke Nukem Forever may be in trouble, but at least Duke Nukem still seems to live. Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: Seither on May 17, 2009, 10:17:03 AM Hmm, think about it this way. Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: Chronos on May 19, 2009, 01:42:37 AM Hmm, well it seems (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6209901.html) that 3DRealms itself is not closing, although they had to let their Duke Nukem Forever team go.
Of course, they said that they will "continue to license and co-create games based upon the Duke Nukem franchise." Maybe they could settle for a co-author spot with Duke Nukem Forever. Of course, this lawsuit is quite a wrench in everything. It could be a year before 3DRealms is legally allowed to do anything with the Duke Nukem Forever source. Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: Chronos on May 20, 2009, 07:39:41 PM Whatever... Don't judge me!
Anyways, if you want to support Duke, I suggest the Duke Nukem Trilogy (http://www.apogeesoftware.com/products/duketrilogy), starting with soon-to-be-released Duke Nukem: Critical Mass (http://www.apogeesoftware.com/products/duketrilogy/criticalmass). The Duke Nukem Trilogy is a slew of new 3D Duke Nukem games going to be released episodically for the PSP and the Nintendo DS. They say that they are going to "[take] full advantage of each platforms strengths," and that it will feature "3D Characters with Detailed Textures," "Multi-Player Action," and "Total Ass-Kicking Weapons." It's being developed by Frontline Studios, rather than 3D Realms, so you don't have to worry about that. Jon St. John returns as the voice of Duke Nukem, which makes this game worth more than its weight in gold. Title: Re: R.I.P. 3DRealms Post by: Seither on May 20, 2009, 07:45:33 PM Whatever... I already planned on getting them, lmao. however, with this whole set coming out and all, i can't help but feel if maybe this isn't a typical 3DR stunt, they've pulled similar before.... |
