If we did this, we'd also see people asking for system transfers, CP re-allocation, firing of workers, and all of the rest of the things where people put stuff in the wrong places.  I think you should just have to deal with having fewer marines in those other ships.  After all, you don't have to make any particular ship, and you don't have to use all of your cash on the ship (instead of just marines).

Yes, it would cause more problems then the help it would bring. (I wanted to exchange these two ships for that stronger one, they cost the same together) It would mean we'd have to allow stuff like that too.

eh not necesarily... maybe for a small fee (for transfering the marines) you can move marines from one ship to another, like reinforcements... i mean if you were selling an old ship woulda ya get rid of all teh marines on it and then hire new ones or just assign them to a new post?

Sure, that makes sense.  But it also makes sense that, instead of selling a ship, you could use its hull for segments.

Some things that make sense in the "real world" would just be bad for gameplay.

Oo, Oo, I got an excuse, it could be that regular ships aren't made out of segments. Segments are made out of quantintanbrium or something and it's, like, rare I guess.

thanks crazy man, that's exactly what I was going to say.

just make sure marine cost is included in the amount you get back for selling ships, and there ya go, you get 50% back from the cost of them.

btw, I think we are all STILL waiting for that sell fleet option that just sells the fleet, NOT the fleet blueprints and stuff (just sets the fleet to the equivalent of having 0 ships)

and ya... what DOES keep us commanders from using a deathstar class ship to gain an ungodly amount of segments...?

ok, in the real world, you wouldn't just throw away two good ships and buy a new one, you'd take apart the other two and use those parts to build the bigger one. And you can't argue that. So people should be allowed to trade 2 smaller ships for 1 bigger ship according to you guys.

... You know what? Sense we're all going towards reallity (or something), why don't we make it so that you have to mine the resources for your ships?

no monkey, in real world you would take apart 2 small oens to make a big one, but you cna just sell both and use money to help fund big one, in real world cost to take both apart and build a new one would cost at least 50% of value of ships 16

It sort of is like the real world, because you sell your old creeky ship's old creeky parts to make money with which you can buy nice new shiny ones for your nice new shiny ship 15

It's like any proper debate, you always end up going off topic at least once.
