Never understood why famous commanders use different accounts as main or change names.
Basically fame is both an asset, and a challenge, but more likely an asset. In the end the top position gives most satisfaction, and the repeated presence there gives the value of the player.

Some of them care not for fame, nor assets. They just want to kill. And when they change their names, possibly they hope you forgot their number so they can sneak up on your and rape you from behind again.... and again.... and again....
To some it up with a quote...

"...some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villian by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished...

Yeap, true, but in the end, if i would want to 0 someone, i would want him to know it was me, and fear me. That's an asset also.

Perhaps you have not been in the top 10 much...?
I guess in the end, as you say, the result is "to each his own"... If I could transfer EVERYTHING to a new account, I would come back as a totally new account every single round.
... But... You wont find mannaman15 in the top 10 either 16
... well, maybe sometimes, when I get bored...

Think about it this way... if you're a smart player... and you see someone like Spayed, the huntsman, gilgamesh, etc in the rankings RIGHT beside you... you're going to as quickly as possible gtfo and/or prepare MUCH more for an imminent attack. However, if you were to see a name such as... qwertyu, vladimir, rasmussen, etc you wont think much about it...
Thus, the element of surprise is then the attackers. AKA catching you with your pants down.

I had my share of top positions. I was just using a defensive approach rather than offensive, because i was usually isolated between players way stronger than me... individually and as a group. Cammy once got me exactly when i bought a new lead before i had the time to marine-up  laugh that was the definition of flawless timing.
However, i had some respect for some rather PVP oriented players like Spayed, Cammy, Nighty, TNT, Chicken, MasterJohn, that prowled around me like sharks.

Wanna know how I know you're a noob?! You included MJ in a list of players who are Great at PvP...

In the chat language of MMO's, n00b and noob are different things. As a definition a n00b is a experienced player with a bad attitude, a noob is a new player. Both terms are usually used as insults.
Usually people who are insulting others unprovoked are seen as n00bs, and that's worst than noob.
About MJ, he reached the tops against all odds, and that requires skills, and that against a whole alliance of great players. You should respect the skill even if you do not like attitude. If he is your enemy, that's fine, but do not disrespect your foes, and never underestimate them.
But that's off topic...
I like to know my friends as well as my enemies. That's why i do not like the "name shifting" thing. I personally do not like MJ because he was once in the same alliance, left, and attacked me unprovoked. But i do respect his skills and knowledge of the game. I do not like Spayed, because he prowls on the weaker players for fun, but i do respect him as a great player. My favourite players are Lightseeker, NightShadow and Midnight, each for different reasons, but mainly because they used to be my friends in game at a certain time. I had my share of clashes both with Nighty and Midnight, but we have never insulted or disrespected each other.
I would like to see them all in-game again... Even if that means beeing 0'ed by Nighty or outclassed badly by Lighty...

Si eu te iubesc.  16

First, in order to fall into your technical web definitions, one would first have to care, and second have to be using said word with webtionary definitions intended. I fall into neither category.

Second, the fact that you either know that already, or took the time to look it up, make you even more of a noob, AND a loser. so now you're a nooser... Or a loob... hmm... If you want to "see me as a n00b" or whatever, feel free. That is the beauty of personal opinions : )

Third, Saying that MJ "reached the top against all odds" is a gross misunderstanding. You obviously have no clue whatsoever about this game and what goes on in the top 10. What it takes to reach the top 10, without being fed.
Ask MJ how much he donated last round alone. Then ask chicken the same question, then Arkan, then Borg, then me. IF everyone tells you the truth, I firmly believe that your eyes will be blown wide open, and suddenly you will see this situation how I see it.

Fourth, you really should not even get into things that you don't understand.
Respect. Respect must be given, before it is gotten. You can say that people have respect for their elders all you want, or however you would like to phrase it, but I can guarantee you one thing, and that is that unless you are a worthless submissive, useless POS, until someone shows you respect, you are not just going to freely hand them respect when they are constantly verbally abusing you for no reason whatsoever. ("you" is meant as a collective, sociological term).

As for insults and disrespect... if you truly feel you have not been disrespected here, just take a looksy at your reputation rating.
... I digress...

Not sure how rep works on forum. I may not be so liked by some, maby liked by few, unknown to most. That does not matter to me.
The point of topic was that i would like to know who i am playing against.

PS.

Another reason for name changes would be: Boredom

In one of the rounds my whole alliance changed our names. It was done for fun and to get an immature laugh from some people 1

I would agree to some extent with Wesley. If I could transfer all my things from my main account to another account, I would change my account as well. I have been in the top 10 enough times that it doesn't really matter whether people think I'm good or crap or a donator or whether I'm scary or dangerous etc etc.

Sometimes it's good to play an account where no one knows who you are. Sometimes when people don't know who you are you don't get all the alliance politics, you don't get asked to join alliance, you don't get asked for help with this and that. You can just play alone. you don't owe people anything and because they don't know who you are, they don't owe you anything. Sometimes it allows you to just have fun.  unadulterated fun with no strings attached.
