This is another thought on the aching question --- how to un-complicate and attract new ppl . Yes, a new server (cos following won't apply to existing...).

Overview: 2 sides, small galaxy of 100 systems. No missions, encounters, bounties, intel. Only system structures and planets.

Goal-to controll certain % of galaxy by one side. Occupation is simple- each system has reavers(or guardians). They are destroyed, and player sets up his own fleet. If it is not taken out within five minutes,system is owned by one side. Simple enough.Stations can be built for support bonuses.

Resources- system resources are present. Money  is given per set period of time, like every hour, amount depends on side-controlled systems and player level.

Nebula- like with alien incursions, players enter evasive manouvres, instead of a proper nebula. Counters only show distance away.

Research- all normal research(reduced cost, stabs/disruptors and cloak/scanner cost same amounts i.e. cloak = scanner ). If system is captured with a planet in, planet is captured too.

Thats basic idea. This should provide some fast paced action, while eliminating grind to get money. It won't require hours of sitting beside a comp, but will still allow room for skills useage that player learnt on other servers. I suppose you can't really go more PvP than this.

im gonna suggest a slightly different setup to my pervious server suggestion 16

2 alliance with unlimited member openings
all research including planets, but no cloaking or scanner (more combat less hiding)
each player receives 20K segs, 25 bil creds, 100 cp and 20 bil workers every night. maybe this could be multiplied by 1.01/\ number of days that commander has been playing this server. it might unbalance things sorta like in the current wars server, but it could be good. there should be some type of increase...
intels cost 5X more
no missions.
no encounters.
attack for gain. fight an everlasting war. when one side wins, the server starts over. maybe this can happen when one side controls the entire top 30 or something like that.

i think people would enjoy this because theres no grinding, only combat, and it doesn't take long to play, only as long as u want it to

I think this would be a cool server. I could try out random ships and see how well they work. And it might be fun to not have to worry about makeing money.

imo creating new servers is not a good idea to increase playercount
players will most likely divide between servers and will effectively reduce playercount per server (unless 1 is better then the other)

i do like the idea of incorporating territories and bonuses related to them.. it would make the game even more interesting (if well balanced and tested).. however i think it would be better for playercount to integrate it into the main server

the thing about player count is very true. there are few players who can play both the wars and main server competetively. (kudo's to you rabbites and cam!)

so the fewer the servers the better, unless we get a lot more players ;)

if you ever want a deadly intresting battle, i think it would have to be Me vs Nighty haha

i think u vs nighty in a political debate would be best of all 16

well originally it was me and ftp, annihilation and preservation of faith. but i dont think many ppl would support that. so hows this?:

each side gets to elect their own government. they can have either a group of leaders or 1 leader. that 1 leader can be overthrown and a new government installed by votes. it would be more than just attacking and stuff, would make things interesting, but would also be hard to make and get right.
