Ok, this is how it goes. Royalties is where another player, a gold player, gets your design, doesn't change the name on it, and then resupplies it. you get 3% of the resupply value, and there is a max, not sure what it is though. To "buy" a design is actually called cloning it, you spend no money, you just have to know it's name, unless you feel like spending a couple days/weeks going through the entire ship list. to start, where it say upgrade to gold on your main menu screen (pr any screen except the galaxy map for that matter) once you are gold this will read Manage Gold account. Once you go in here, at the bootom left there is a box with match fleet name in front of it.Type in the fleet's name, and hit search, and it will bring up every fleet with that name in it, starting with the lowest price up. You can also put a credit limit on your search, or search by attack, defense, hitpoints, accuracy, or shields. Then you find the ship you want, check a little box off to the side, like when resupplying, and go down to the button that says clone selected fleets and click it. Then you can go resupply that fleet like normal. there is also an experience calculator above the cloning area, but I'm not sure exactly how that works, I've never used it before. Also, gold members get double growth and interest, 20% of resupplying, you can upload a picture for your avatar that is seen when a commander attacks you or you do a mission or encounter, you can deactivate the ads, you get 5000 max turns instead of 3000, and you can upload a picture to be in the background of your main menu. There is also a bonus amount of credits for becoming a gold member (right now it's 37.5 billion credits) Also, being a gold member, if there are any new bonuses added, you'll get them too. And if the auction room is added, you'll get more options in there, as well as get a free fleet commander once those are introduced, if they are.

fleet calculator (from what I have seen from friends and others, since I don't have it myself)

type in the number of ships you have in the fleet, then the exp it has, and type in the amount of hp, defense and attack it has.  once you do this, hit calculate, and it will change the amounts you typed into HP, Defense, and Attack to what it would be with the bonuses.  note though, that if you put in 200000 ships as the amount, it will take into account 200000 ships worth fo swarm bonus, even though it may stop at 100000 ships.  not sure about any of this of course, but pretty sure that is basically it.

and the designers only get a 2% royalty.  last I seen the cap is in the billions.  and I think that changing the name of a cloned ship should not be allowed and even if it is the orginal designer should get the royalties enstead of some who cloned the ship and changed its name.  If they refit the ship that is one thing then it becomes a different ship.

not really.  I was answering the question as to who fleet calculator works.  and this?  maybe a leech based off of a leech...  confused 13 16

anyway, ya, has anyone found out the max?  which by the way I disagree with.  if someone builds a cloned ship that 2% is more then that max, then you start losing out on credits you probably earned with the design.

I haven't seen anything higher then 3.5B (When I discovered the Royalty bug, which had it where you would get royalties for someone attempting to ressuply a fleet. you input 99999999 and it gave you a royalty of 3.5B)
