It's attack is alot higher, due to the numbers... but what you don't see with alien fleets is their ABS and ACU. That can make a big difference to its overall FP.

Alien no. 3 could have a low ABS and a high ACU  value giving it a nasty bite.

I noticed more killer fleets last round myself.. even with max hp and abs and items i would still lose ships to aliens smaller than my lead

To be clear by 30% HP you mean 1HP to 3.33ATT?
