It's your fleet experience. If a fleet gets enough of it, it'll get bonuses to certain stats and can really help in the long run. You get fleet exp. using your fleets to kill stuff with. Either against missions, reavers, encounters, or even other commanders. But the ships have to participate to get exp.

Yes, as Chronos said, but the experience you see at the bottom of the screen is NOT the experience you get.

Isn't the experience at the bottom of the screen the experience your commander gets? Or is it the total experience over everything?

That's the experience your commander gets.

Someone told me once that you gain (fleet) exp faster with little/no def.  I'm not sure I believe him, I just want to have the definitive answer.

your defence does not affect your earning of experience, your total power does.

In addition to the power of your enemies and whether you win or not, I believe.

That's what I've been thinking, just wanted to officially get it debunked.
And it's not really YOUR power, but the power you destroyed.  I've gotten 0 exp from a mission, then in the 800s the next.  All because the lead ship was a big brick in the first one.

Now we need to find out how much power destroyed -> 1 exp.
Also how much power destroyed -> 1 exp for the fleet.

I've always gotten exp even for complete failures.

Maybe with enough power, you always get exp.  I know for a fact that isn't true with lower powers, though.  Even with a 100 mill power ship, killing nothing -> getting nothing.

I have noticed that it isn't solely dependent on power destroyed, though.  I can destroy almost enough power and get 25 exp, or just enough power and get 800, both from the same % mission with the same fleets.
