then it boosts defence, which is even more reason to have more hp then atack to start with.

Ya, but the question still remains, what's a good ratio?

easy, more hp then attack, but not a ton more. usually close to equal will do it.

There comes a point when trading attack for ACU and hitpoints for ABS become counterproductive.

ya, and it is more or less how you want the ship to be used.  personally, I give it more attack then HP.  check it out:

your attack, will before hitting the opponents hull, be reduced by 100-[your accuracy %], then reduced by his sheild %, then further reduced by any defense.  now granted I don't know how it is reduced, like 50% ACC and 50%, an attack of 1 mil would go to 500k then 250k, or what, and that it works both ways, but I do know that if you have to low HP, you will lose ships and maybe win the mission, getting 80% back.  if you have to little attack, you will do no damage and fail.

also, who says you HAVE to do more then 25% missions?  the max I will ever do is 10%, most upper ranked players barely do 1% missions.  now granted, when I do a 10% mission, the actual fleets I am facing is probably 80%-100% my fleet power I actually use, but still, it is safer then actually going out and doing the 25%+ mission, due to certain features put in as of late...

Yes, fate is a fickle thing, and fickle things like to rid you of hundred billion credit ships... :'-\

But still, you have to take into account that crew bonuses increase attack but not hitpoints.
