Scanning

When you scan an enemy installation like a space station or the like, I get simply ???? for everything...what tech allows me to actually see information instead of just wasting turns??

The more you scan the more likely to find something.
Also you can increase scanner technology under Station Defence/Offence

So if I waste several sets of 10 turns clicking "scan" on someone's space station I might come up with extra information that didn't show previously?

Yes, though you will have to keep track of everything yourself as it doesn't record it for you anywhere.
