Read some stuff in the strategy and design section of the forums...that's probably the best thing you can do to get good early. That and join a good training alliance

Don't give up if you get wasted... and learn from it.

Don't expect to be in top before you learn the game very well. And even so, is pretty hard.

If you get frustrated about some things going wrong (or terrible wrong) ask experienced players.

Always be nice with other players. No reason to ask for trouble.
