I am new to this game and started playing 2 days ago.  I have got up to 9,000 segments but whenever I attack somebody with a fleet I always lose my whole fleet.  I just want to know what my fleet power should be and how much I should expect this to cost.

eg)  If I spend 200mill on a fleet that is designed ok if that enough or should I be spending more / less?

It depends on the ship, not the price.  I know of two ships, one is 600 mil, the other 15 bil, and they do exactly the same thing.  So we need to know what you are buying before we can help you.

its all about how you design your upgrades. if you use the designs premade for you, of couse the fleet will sots alot more.

I was under the impression that it doesn't matter how much the ship costs.  If it costs ten times as much as another ship, you just make 10 times less of it.  As for the design, average.  I read through the guides and I think I've come up with a ok swarmer.  Look...

cost 2,900
weapon 6,000
defence 400
space 17

I think thats an ok design.  How much do you think I should spend on that to be able to win battles with arouind the 8-9,000 segment area?

ok, for one thing, I KNOW for a fact you mean HP, not Defense, as I have a ship with just 100 defense as low a cost as possible and that is 16k credits with nothing else on it.

also, this kind of ship is really bad. nothing to do with designing skills, just that the formulas were changed begginning of this round that made ships like that almost worthless.  they can still be somewhat good for where you are at, but most likely not very much longer.  and how many to be effective?  a LOT.  like 10-100k each fleet, at LEAST.

Lamma I'm not looking to recruit anyone, whatsoever.

By the way, you said exactly what I said.

Try to design a better ship, or go to the topic swarmer help and get some designs and tips from there, or contact ars68 or gunfighter_frank and "buy" a ship from them (ars might give you one free though)

send me your total power, curent fleets from the war page,  and how many credits you have to spend.  I give 2 designs to new players to get them started on a good footing.
