i don't know if anyone else agrees... but i think it would be cool to large traveling bodies of resources (rogue asteroids, comets &/or dwarf planets) that people could find and mine large quantities of resources from but only while they stayed in one system. perhaps even when planets are implemented it could become possible to build bases on these traveling celestial bodies.
also... are we ever going to be able to move in to "empty" space? (would make cat and mouse a lot harder)

haha dwarf planet.. like pluto but seriously, the idea is interesting but if you have planets that you buid bases on, the idea of building bases on a moving asteriod is a little redundant. Unless planets didnt have any inherent resources and you had to mine them from moving asteriods that could appear in a system and move every hour or so...

BRILIANT! good idea! because planets will have to be created... that meens any resources that u could get from them would have to have been mined from them. perhaps mining facils on these moving things and procesing/population/taxes on planets?

or you could reaserch space tugboats to tow large asteriods found to an optimal system....and use tehm to buyild a planet.... haha maybe mine stuff off nuetron stars to aid in using gravitational tides to pull even more asteriods together until u gots a planet. mind u then youd also have to have things like black holes and stuff pull more asteriods to teh,m whicih would mena all teh more war zones... would be nice on teh war server

nice idea... things would get pretty interesting... for example u build a mining base on lets say a giant commet, it goes out so far that it gets nudged out of orbit by a black hole and u have no idea where it went. 5 days later u fin it on a colision corse for your new spacestation half way across the galaxy.

hahaha, ya..but having gravitational tides would have to affect anything without engines, so if planets popped up not only would u have to track teh already large masses of resources but also guide asteriofds around the galazxy tehn.... and lets say 2000 random asteriods are around(bit less tahn 1 per player on wars) youd have to move that to 1000 stars each with at least 1 type of resource tht would also move...so a large bit of work three..but yea it would be wicked

hmmm as long as gravity didnt get too complex say for example it was only a range u couldnt enter without eventually coliding... then it wouldn't be too bad all emi would have to do was right the grav formulas (which could be pretty simple) and then created a smaller class of planets that already exist and give them a movement path (like ships) but instead of saveing up turns and jumping, they would spend those turns in-between i dont know, maybe if u researched enough it would just pull in all asteroids withing 5 turns of ur location or sumtin?

hehe wicked, but yeah, the idea is to make everything in the Galaxy act and feel like it is real, including moving bodies, gravitational fields affecting the celestial objects, gravitation affecting the star clusters, making them move around, collisions, temperature & terraforming, protoplanets and planets creation trough artificial gravity generators to create the artificial stelar nurcery required for the protoplanet, and in the near future, new stars beeing created, old stars going supernova, nebulae creation or new black holes due to supernovas, etc.

NICE! so there will be moving bodies?

How "long" is teh terrafdorming/planet construction supposed to take? and doesent it take billions of years for stars to cycle from newborns to nuetrons or black holes or more stardust? lol jw

Reading past topics usually isn't a bad idea... this was sort of a spur of the moment idea though... ainsi la vie!

could sorta go along with this, but what about solar wind? ie solar sails to reduce movement costs or collectors that would gather exotic particles.
