Hi All,
Long time lurker on the board and have been playing Space for a few months. Just some things I don't understand and am unable to find in the FAQs or the search engine. Please move if its in the wrong forum:

1. I have a fleet of pships that has the biggest fp and is more than 20% of my total fleet. Sometimes when I get attacked I get put into a nebular (as expected) but some commanders are still able to steal my segments. I thought that if you are put into a nebula then they can't steal my segments? Is this right? Or does it have to do with the %loss that I take compared to the attacker's % loss ie. If I lose more % fp then the attacker, they will take some segments (even if I am in a nebular).

2. Now and then I will get an attack on my fleet. And it says something like "XX attack you, you lose 0 ships and they lose 5 ships". Why haven't l lost any pships? My pships is 0 hp so in theory they should all go if someone attack me.

To make a long story short I want to know:

1. What condition is required for a commander to 'successfully' attack you and steal your segments.
2. Why sometimes my pships remain standing even after an attack.

Thanks

sometimes people will send ships with 0 attack at you to see what fleets you have up, and that is probably why your pships don't get killed sometimes in an attack, and people can still counter you, or bounty attack you when you are in neb,  and usually if people successfully attack you and they use alot of ships then they will take your segs, people also take more segs when they board attack you instead of regular attack

thanks cameron. I didn't realise people use 0 attack ships...interesting. Do people use the same ships to scout?
Also, how would they know what type of fleet I have. When I get attacked I don't see any info on attacker ship details.
So...for eg:

I have 1000 pships and I'm not in a nebula
Joe Smith attacks me, destroys my pships and put me into a nebular
If he uses a lot of ships there is  a chance he can still take segments from me even though my pships have now put me into a nebular?

Is there a way to prevent other commanders from taking segments from you when they attack?

Make sure they lose a larger % of power then you do... which is impossible with powerships.

Point is, you lose segs in that attack, which then puts you in a nebula. As ftp said, its impossible to kill anything that counts with pships, so there kinda is no hope.

Unless you leave out kami instead of pships 16

Thanks guys.
So I guess pships aren't really worth it?

Its great that I get put into a nebular but I also lose like 2000 segements each time. Would it be better just to get a big supership as the first line of dense than pships?

yeah that makes sense...it is easy to replace 2000 segs :-)

I am thinking of getting a gold account. With this account can I get stats of ships that attack me in the full report?

Just another questions since I have all of the gurus on the forum:

What is an appropriate size fleet? I'm talking about the NUMBER of fleets.

I tend to have one fleet of pships, and 4 superships (so 4 fleets of 1 ship) of varying sizes. However, sometimes I encounter enemies that has 10 or 12 fleets and I do not kill enough of a % to get the reward.

This is especially annoying when you waste almost 50 turns just to complete one mission.

Thanks

If you are doing a mission, then 3 is a minimal. The way I do it- take the % required to complete a mission, divide by 10, and thats generally how much you need to be effective.
