I think I like this idea. :-)

Let me consider some more appropriate numbers though before I give it my full approval.
2  General Talk / SO WARS Discussion / Re: Alts on: July 18, 2008, 05:38:49 AM

1 login per IP or only 1 IP per login will not work. I routinely travel, I have used various IP's in the past ... Friends come over or I visit friends ... There was about 10 of us that played from work at one stage, we all had the same IP, or more or less the same IP depending on your level of IT knowledge, and I rarely use the same computer twice to play. :-)

We need to address the problem of why people would play ALT's.

Historically I played an ALT to scout and to fly around when I had run out of turns on my Main.

Amagnon and I soon decided that using ALT's in any way shape or form was cheating, so we stopped. It does give you an edge, but since we were so far ahead of the pack we didn't care. I could still annihilate anyone on the WARS server if I used an ALT ... But what would be the point in that, I cheated to win, and the other person prolly quits ... No point in being the undisputed master of an empty server.

So anyway, I digress.

Why do people use ALT's? Primarily because they run out of turns on their Main. Increase the number of turns available for Mains, and you will reduce peoples ability to maintain effective ALTs ... Increase turns ... That's all .. Proportionally people will need to spend more time burning turns on their Mains to stay competitive, and have less or ZERO time to play ALTs.

What effect would this have?

The new people have more turns to do missions and to catch up to established players.

The older players have some turns left over after research to actually play the game again.

You can ask people to stop cheating, you can try an implement convoluted security measures which would have to become increasingly convoluted over time, or you can just make it unprofitable to play an ALT altogether.

3  General Talk / SO WARS Discussion / Re: Alts on: July 16, 2008, 09:19:07 PM
People shouldn't use ALTS, period.

Unless your ALT exists for the sole purpose of providing you access to a Training Alliance so you can help people out in their Alliance chat, then you are probably breaching ToS.

If you use an ALT to attack people, whoever they are, they are weakened, and become less of a threat to your main, and potentially they never become a threat to your main because they quit after experienced and skilled players destroy them time and again. Thus in a fashion, any PvP action by an ALT indirectly helps your main. Extrapolate that line of reasoning out to its furthermost extremes and you will agree that ANY and ALL PvP action by an ALT is DIRECTLY helping your main.

Therefore ALTS should be banned, but they probably can't be, and probably will not be. So it boils down to the quality of the player. Any PvP by an ALT is a breach of the ToS, knowingly and deliberately breaching the ToS is cheating. Using ALTS for PvP is cheating, those who do so are cheats.

So, I'll have to agree with Presm. Alts are bad, enough said. All fair and reasonable people will agree.

Looks like that's against the ToS to me ...

He should be banned. :-)

Welcome to SO.

This has been mentioned before ... The whole Planetary Economy is out of whack ...

My suggestions are always for Wars .. :-)
12  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Remote Control on: June 22, 2008, 07:16:01 AM
Following on from this idea:

My original intention was for remote management so you could change the production.

But AFB's note, not to include withdrawing/depositing leads me to an added suggestion to this.

Remote Withdrawing/Depositing from a Planet/Structure.

We research and Build a Control Centre on one of our planets.

We can then remotely Load and unload mining facilities.

However, as Nasa has found out, orbital mechanics and interplanetary transport can get a little tricky and a few of these payloads may get lost in transit. These lost payloads can either be intercepted by aliens(other players) or explode mid flight thus reseeding the galaxy with resources..

Chance for loss would be low, like 5% or less.

EG: Tzarkoth Mining Base 1 has 10,000,000 Carbon ... I have this remotely transported back to my Planet. I luck out and it gets lost. This either eplodes, reseeding a random system, or gets converted into a Encounter that someone can do for a reward of 10,000,000 carbon. FP of Encounter would be some fraction of the owners FP.

Enjoy.
13  General Talk / General Discussion / Re: planets and system fleets on: June 20, 2008, 03:57:03 AM
Chalk it up as another inconsistency in the game ... It's not like Emi is gonna change something just cause everyone thinks its stupid.

The only plus, is everyone has to deal with the same stupid stuff. :-)

There is zero point complaining about stuff and zero point offering suggestions for fixes.

Nothing gels ... Planets have pop caps of Billions while "Secret Asteroids" have Trillions, in a Galaxy where there are ZERO Asteroids remaining as they have all been mined, and then suddenly people are pulling planets out of their butts, it's like wtf. You can put cloaking on a Station that costs less to build than your smallest swarmer, yet you can't cloak your fleets. You can see the tiniest Mission with your Quadrillion dollar fleet yet they can't see a fracking Black Hole or any other encounter for that matter. Vast areas of Tech are completely useless and wasted effort if you pursue them ...

You know I could go on all day about the stuff that annoys me in this game, and EVERY point I mention I have previously 'suggested' a fix.

I know everyone loves wasting their time with this game as much as me so I'll say no more. :-)
14  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Remote Control on: June 19, 2008, 06:35:34 AM
Nasa can make Mars Rovers do various things.

I think in SO, being as we are so much more advanced, we should be able to access our Mining Stations remotely.

It would be awesome if we could modify production remotely.

Thus I propose a remote management interface for all system structures.

15  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: New Buttons. on: June 14, 2008, 06:26:13 AM

We have Battlegroup finally, awesome ...

Any movement on the Morph Button ? :-)
