Title: Basic S-Ship Designing Guide
Post by: Viper72988 on June 13, 2008, 01:52:20 PM
I have been told this is a little confusing but it is what I have now. If you have any suggestions pm me in game at Jan`go Vhett (SOWARS).

Here are some things you need to know.

Systems.

1. Armour used for hp. on swarmers.
2. Computer used to get higher acu. for less en. than if it was all on weapon. (always use 9 wt. on your computers)
3. Marines used to put more marines on your ship making it less susceptible to board attacks.
4. Powercore used to generate the en. that will run your ships.
5. Shield used to increase your hp. (always use 8 wt. on your shields)
6. Special used to get hp. or def. Better for S-Ships hp. than armour is. (always use 6 wt. on your special)
7. Weapon used to get your base acu and your att. (always use 8 wt. on your weapon)

Terms used in systems.

1. Space (wt.) this is how much room is on your ship.
2. Weight(wt.) this is how much space your systems will take on your ship.
3. Energy Gen (engen.) this is how much energy your ship will have avilable.
4. Energy (en.) this is how much energy your sytems will take.
5. Hitpoints (hp.) this is how much damage your ship is able to withstand.
6. Attack (att.) this is how much damage your ship will do.
7. Defense (def.) this is a culminative armour. It stacks with your ships meaning that your ships have to take more than this amount of damage for any of it to count.
8. ABS (abs.) this is an extra bonus to your hp. the more you have the better maxes out at 80%.
9. ACU Bonus (acu.) this is how much of your damage is actually done the higher the bettermaxes out at 99%.
10. Defence Bonus (defb.) this is a bonus to def. I don't personally use it so no idea what the max is.

Little side note we want all systems to cost under 10 credits (cr.).

Now for the actual designing.

Figure out how much you want your ship to cost.
Take that cost and use Microsoft Calculator to divide it by 165.
This will give you your ship wt. always round the decimal down.
Now out of your ship wt. subtract all of your systems total wt. except from the powercore.
This is your powercore wt.
Take powercore wt. and multiply by 400.
Subtract 5276 from this you now have your total engen.
Now figure out how much total en. you will use for computers and shields.
Subtract this from you total energy.
Take leftover energy and divide by 3 this will give you your Weapons en.
Round the decimal up if it is .6 and down if .3.
(You can change the number to change att/hp ratio but this is the suggested ratio.
The reason for this is because as you use your ships they gain experience(exp.)that exp. translates into more att. and def. but not hp.
This makes it more desirable to have higher hp. to begin with as your att. will go up the more exp. your ships have.)
Multiply your Weapon en. by 2 for your Special en.
(If your weapon energy ended in .6 subtract 1 after multipying your en. by 2)
Multiply your Special en. by .3 then subtract 1600.
This is your total hp.
Now to finish the weapon go to design Weapon.
Put in the name, wt., en., and acu.
Now use half the energy for your att. click view design button.
This will show you the cost right now it is to high.
Take the cost and divide it by 10 round the decimal up if .5 or higher and down if .4 or lower.
Subtract this from your att. and use this as your new att.

Now for an example of a design and a free 10 bil design.

Ok I want a ship that costs 10 bil so I take and divide 10,000,000,000 by 165.
This equals 60,606,060.
I will now design a ship with 60,606,060 space.
Ok the shield and computer setup I have determined I will use takes 191 wt. and added to that are the 6 for special and 8 for weapon so the total is 205.
Now I subtract 205 from 60,606,060 which equals 60,605,855.
I will use this for my powercore wt.
So I take 60,605,855 and multiply by 400 then subtract 5,276.
This equals 24,242,342,324 this is my total engen.
Now the shield and computer setup I will use takes 4,858,564,446 en. so I will subtract this from total energy.
This equals 19,383,777,878 so now I divide this by 3 so as to get my weapon energy.
This equals 6,461,259,292.6666666666666666666667 so I round it up (since it is .6) to 6,461,259,293.
Now I multiply this by 2 and subtract 1 (this is because it was .6 earlier with the weapon energy).
This equals 12,922,518,585.
Now I take this and multiply by .3 then subtract 1,600.
This equals 3,876,755,576 which gives us our total hp.
Now we go in to design the weapon to figure out its att.
So we put all the stats in (which for this ship we use 58% acu.) and it says it will cost 15,606,889,251.
This is to much but we need this number to figure out our att.
So we take this number and divide it by 10 which equals 1,560,688,925.
Now we subtract this from what we used for att.
This euqals 1,669,940,722 input this as att. and you will see that the design now costs 1 cr. so now we have the right att.
Now I will show you the shield and computer setup.

Shields
2 with 8 wt. 559,248,366 en. and 36% abs.
3 with 8 wt. 279,628,099 en. and 35% abs.
2 with 8 wt. 139,817,966 en. and 34% abs.

Computers
14 with 9 wt. 87,388,499 en. and 19% acu.
1 with 9 wt. 1,398,108,499 en. and 23% acu.

This gives a total of 99% acu. and 66% abs.

Now someone has went and made a list of perfect Computers and Shields.
I will include that list here to save you time whe designing ships.
Sorry but I don't think anyone has an abs. or acu. calculator to figure out best shields and computers yet .
You'll just have to figure em out or use the same setup for the ship I included.

Awesome job, you are very close on most of the numbers and dead on for others, as far as efficiency goes.

And there are people who have figured out the best abs and acu setups for supers, at least. I don't think that a calculator is really necessary for figuring the abs and acu setups out, as once you have it you won't need to change it.

If you end up joining PoF I can help perfect your numbers...after you sign over your firstborn son, your soul, and a non-disclosure agreement,  of course.

in this guide I got lost at the point where it talks about finding the right att to lower your cost. What is the base attack that is used to get the 15bil R the number of the initial att power doesn't matter i.e I can use att=1 with acu at 58% then use that cost to get my actual attack?

No use you energy then check to see how much it costs.
Take the cost and divide by 10.
Then subtract that from the energy on your weapon and that will be the right attack.
If it ends up costing 1.000 Credits then add 1 more to the attack.

in your tut you talk about subtracting the total weight of your systems. lets say that i want to spend 500,000. on a hull which has space of 3030 how do i know how much space to give each system that i'm going to use?

You subtract the total of all the systems except the powercore to find the powercore weight.

I get that but how do U even figure out how many system's  to use i.e. the ship space is 3030 do u just go I want 12 comps at 8 wt, 10 wea at 8 wt......... then when your finished you find the core's en!

If I have 10 Billions, I will try it out, but now .... after the raid, I have no ship, and no credits.

Hi, I've been playing spaceo for some years now, I have some comments on this topic, first it is quite confusing as many said and secondly why do everything a computor can do for you? If you want to design ships go to this website, you only have to enter the size of the ship and it will tell you how to design it: http://home.comcast.net/~sjfebf22/SO/ShipDesigner.htm (http://home.comcast.net/~sjfebf22/SO/ShipDesigner.htm). It is pretty usefull if you want to design bid ships, but never try it with small ships. L:)

often ships made by a person are better than ships made by a comp

Yeah if the person knows what they are doing they can get better ships than that designer.
That said though that designer is a very good one :)
