1. What was the first console system capable of producing recognizable speech?
It was the snes, though it wasn't done often. Star Fox was one game that did use voices, heard towards the end of boss fights, and at the end of the game, you could hear the voices of the main characters. Look it up if you don't believe me.

2. What is the only handheld gaming system capable of playing full, unmodified console games from their original cartridge/disk?
Sega Nomad, it was the marketed as the first portable console. It played the exact same cartridges the genesis could.

9. Link has killed Ganon many times over the years. However, Ganon was not present in the original sequel to Zelda labeled Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. What was the final boss of this game?

It was his first appearance, the final boss is none other than Shadow Link.

You said console able to, not able to with a synthesizer, so I am technically right. but message me the answer, as i have no clue, unless it's the virtualboy (ha, not likely, that got dropped fast)

and ya...luckily I already own one XD I love it too. nothing like taking sonic on a long road trip. Those thing's battery life is beastly, I've played for 8 hours straight on it before it died (and i had some serious hand crampage). and back then...8 hours was unheard of for a full color screen, average life was 3-4. granted, the thing needs 6 batteries....and has an AC adapter for at home use. It was literally a portable console...not a handheld.

and getting to that last temple was a pain...i spent months trying. i finally did beat it though. I was a good game.

I wouldn't mind trying to go through the last temple if I didn't have to get there first... *shudder*

You said console able to, not able to with a synthesizer, so I am technically right.
You're not right in any way, regardless. The unlicensed NES game Bible Buffet by Wisdom Tree had some very clear voice on it.

Besides, the synthesizer was a standard addon that would play certain extended games for the console. It was kind of like the 32X in that respect.

ah but see, that's an unlicensed product, so it doesn't count. and idk if standard "add on" counts as part of a console. but meh, pm me the answer either way.

Who was the actual final boss of Doom 2: Hell on Earth that you had to kill to win the game?

Ooo, ooo, it was that, that one guy...

Let me see if I can guess his name...

Was it John Carmack's severed (and impaled) head?

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia

Did you google that  :P?

Well, no.

Since the truth is out that Icon of sin was not the boss, I'll actually give answer. This was a trick question anyway. You were close.

its actually John Romero's severed head on a spike. Before you enter, it sais "To win the game you must kill me, John Romero" backwards. If you knew that ,and didn't look it up, then respectz  :P L:)

I knew it had to be one of the game designers because, well, who else? Not to mention, I think I remember hearing something to that effect. Anyways, so I thought to guess Mr. Carmack.

Thus, we got shived on II, III, V!

Why WoW of course! It's one of my favorite episodes. Favorite, as in, I don't dislike it. Also residing on this prestigious list is the Guitar Hero episode.

the Gameboy Advance game Metroid Fusion, what does Samus fondly nickname the station's computer system?

Hmm, well, I remember the person, but the name eludes me.

kinda of a habit being a mod, lol, sorry bout that. and yes, but unlicensed game=hard tog et ahold of thus not exactly general knowledge, heck, may not be outside of a select hundred or so, thus why most people don't count those, lol.

I've got a few questions, so here thay are:

What is seen many times in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but not ONCE mentioned by NAME?

In Mario Kart Wii, the star cup's final stage, rainbow road, is a combination of what stages (give game name AND system it was for)?

Who is the main character of ALL the Legend of Zelda games?

None game related ones:

Speed Racer drives 2 cars, what are their names?

How many Indiana Jones movies were originally planned to be filmed?

In the credits of the Speed Racer movie, what song is playing, and what type is it (original composition by ?????, remix of ?????)?

Lol, Seither watches Speed Racer.  :P

Speed Racer=amazing show, amazing movie.

i hate watching those stupid previews for that  movie

Only because you have no soul. It's Speed Racer for crying out loud, the show lacked plot, so it's not going to be exactly like the Matrixes were, however, having seen the movie, I think it's BETTER than the matrix, yes i said it. The matrix was amazing, but they completely pushed the limits of CGI here, as only the people, the house, and select props are real, everything else is CGI. And they did a heck of a good job sticking with the source material style, covering all the main points of the show, and making it so that it is enjoyable for anyone who watches.

And if you hate the previews, don't watch them, simple as that. Though I'd recommend seeing the movie, the previews don't do it justice, and they were awesome as is.

And the answer is not as obvious as you think. If you truely know LoZ, then you now exactly what the answer to this is.

The Missing no. thing was pretty messed up, so Normal/Bird?

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Chronos on May 28, 2008, 01:29:43 AM
Ding, ding, ding! Yep.

The Bird type was a artifact left over from the alpha stages of Generation I. The Flying type was released instead in later generations, so MissingNo and its relatives are the only pokemon to have the Bird type.

(Strangely enough, the Bird type is in the codebank for the Generation II games; however, it does not actually show up.)

Other glitched types include the 999-type, and the Pokémaniac-type.

I would like to put out a general call for gaming trivia.

I am somewhat of an underpriviledged gamer, and as such my repertoire is bleak, especially in the new games area.

If you have any information that might make a good trivia question, post the question here or PM it to me. If you tell me the answer, I will take care of everything, and you will not have to pay attention to guesses.

The more trivia we have, the more will be guessed, the more fun everyone will have.

Thank you for your time.

61.
I've only played Twilight Princess for a couple days about a year ago, so I have no idea. But that does not stop me from guessing.

Hyrule?

63.
Well, if you count Young Link and Adult Link as separate, I believe the only character in every game would be Zelda.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Seither on November 23, 2008, 01:11:22 PM
61. Nope, Hyrule is mentioned. Nice try though. It's kinda funny they never mention this out loud, considering what it is and all. In fact, I think this is the only zelda game they DON'T mention it. I can't really give any hint to it, cause if i did it'd give it away.

63. Nope. I'll give a hint cause unless you know the LoZ lore very well, you'l never ever figure it out. It is Link, but, it'd also not. Remember, the games take place over like, a good couple thousand years. and OoT splits the timeline into two, yet you always play as "Link" (*cough* *cough* hint hint)

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Chronos on November 23, 2008, 02:42:08 PM
Wait, you actually believe that the time-line actually has any assemblance of coherency?

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Seither on November 23, 2008, 02:59:16 PM
it actually does, they've even said, they HAVE an official timeline set up in the zelda department, and they released the fact that OoT's ending split the timeline. There actually is a timeline, and if you look, you can just barely see that certain games really do happen after others.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Chronos on November 23, 2008, 03:28:42 PM
Not exactly.

The "timeline" (http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_Timeline) is widely disputed, and often contradictory depending on what you count as canon. There are multiple believed theories, at the moment, and none of them make too much sense.

Oh, some more qvestions up.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Seither on November 24, 2008, 07:00:31 AM
"In any case, the creators maintain that the series has a set timeline, but due to the poor translation protocols in the 1990s and the constant debate over what counts as being canonical, the publicly available information is disputed and may not be reconciled any time soon. Eiji Aonuma promised he will do his best to patch it all up and hopefully reveal the timeline someday, and Shigeru Miyamoto publicly stated there is a master document containing the timeline - although no proof of this document outside of Miyamoto's word has surfaced in the years since he made the claim. "'

The fact is, a timeline does exist, and while certain games here and there are disputed, it's not overly impossibly to place a majority of them into their very obvious places.

23. In the end cutscenes of Command and Conquer: Tiberium Sun: FireStorm what interesting detail did we learn about Cain?

since it seems this question is not going to be verified right or wrong anytime soon... lemme see if I can answer it for him.
idk if this is what he was referring to... but yes, at the end of that game, it shows a cutscene where you 'think' kain is dead... and cabal as well.  however it starts off in a room with a bunch of cloning vats, zooming in on a central monitor with a messed up cabal talking, until at the end it switches to kane's voice.

having now played the next installment of C&C, C&C 3 and kane's wrath... I believe this was hinting at the fact that kane was living on in a 'cybernetic' version of himself, using parts of what was used to make cabal, until he was able to make a clone of himself... possibly again (that or heal his body enough to make it usable again)

so in effect, you would think that kain is or is part of cabal... however really it was just showing the both was still alive, waiting to come back. (although cabal didn't 'really' come back... kain made a better version of him called 'legion')

also, to answer:
65. an altar with your girlfriend/wife on it
76. 24
81: 8

so here is a question that anyone who  has played C&C 3 kane's wrath will be able to answer...
90: in C&C 3: kane's wrath, who do you play as in the campaign?

and with RA3 out... lemme throw this out as well.
91: has C&C (original series) ever been mentioned in the C&C red alert series? if so, in what game, and how.
92: what reason was given in C&C 3 tib wars for the dismanting of the mammoth mk2's?
93: at first system shock 1 and 2 are unrelated... but it becomes clear that they are directly linked... how did you (the player) cause system shock 2 to happen during the original game system shock?
94: in C&C 3 tib wars, the scrin makes a comment about kain's origins... what was it?
95: descent freespace: the great war and freespace 2... what did the main enemy look like? (the actual creature, not the ships)
96: what happens at the end of freespace 2 that implies the fleet did not commit suicide?
97: in the freespace 1 and 2 games, the main enemy, the shivans, always started with a huge advantage over the terrans and vasudans... but this advantage was different between 1 and 2.  what was it?
98: in the game battlezone 2, your main commander in chief braddock... was he portrayed ultimately as a good or bad guy?
99: in battlezone 2, how do you kill the planet?

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Seither on November 24, 2008, 06:07:48 PM
84. because, the game was originally designed for the gamecube, and when, towards post production, it was decided to go ahead and release it for the Wii as well, the game developers decided since most people are right handed that the easiest solution was to "flip" the game images, thus making EVERYTHING the opposite. Thus, in the gamecube version, a town that is on the left, is actually on the right in the Wii version. no option is included to flip things back for left handed people.

in shorter terms, because more people are right handed than left.

76. you say it like as tho there is only 3 or 4... I know for a fact it was in the 20's, either 23 or 24.  I also remember it was a pain killing lavos over and over again in different parts of the storyline throughout the whole game >_<

anyway, as for copying them down right... they look pretty good.  tho I would make these changes:

91. Has the Tiberium series of Command & Conquer ever been mentioned in the Red Alert series of Command & Conquer? If so, in what game and how?

92. Why were the Mammoth MK2's dismantled in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars?

94. In Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, the Scrin makes a comment about Kain's origins. What was that statement?

96. What happens at the end of Freespace 2 that implies the shivan fleet did not commit suicide?

basically, it's tiberium, not tiberian.  and for clarity sake I would say C&C 3 tib wars... because otherwise ppl may think of C&C 2 tib sun. also, on 96, there was more then just 1 side's fleets during the event in question, so clarifying it being 'the enemies' or 'the shivans' fleet is necasary otherwise it will be ambigous

I do not do most of these questions simply from memory. I know from multiple sources that there are, in fact, less than twenty unique endings, although, perhaps, there may be more than twenty ways to beat the game.

basically, it's tiberium, not tiberian.

Hmm, I just noticed something strange, It's Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, but it is Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars. Am I missing something? Anyways, I've fixed the name for C&C 3, but I am still pretty sure that it is the Tiberian series/timeline.

90: correct
95: correct (tho lemme add in mechanical insect... in case people are wondering 'wth? insect with built in energy cannon?'... but I know you know what I'm talking about... especially since it's still possible they really ARE insects... you never see if it's 100% machine or just a suit  :21:)
96: correct
97: not really...
alliance had better weapons but that doesn't explain the shivans main advantage... in freespace 2 both sides did get better technology, yes, but in the end they were about equal in the way of technology.
being equal isn't an advantage...
the main advantage can be summed up in 1 word for 1, and another word for 2. (maybe that clears it up some)

as for 76, after looking it up your right... tho since I had to look it up I won't say (same as the SHODAN question... to lazy to play the game again to find out)
and now that I think of it... *grabs C&C case* huh... your right... it IS tiberian sun for number 2... I always thought it kept same spelling as tiberium... perhaps they were trying to make it plural?  who knows...

You mean this: FS1-Lucifer-Impenetrable shields, wipes out Vasuda prime and only gets destroyed because it can't have shields on
                            in subspace.
FS2-Sathanas, lots of Sathanas(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKSW4cgPaCM -same situation, different universe).

Or you could just say nubers for both of them.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia

... I'll give you that.
freespace 1 they had a technological advantage (they have sheilds, we don't, unable to lock on, lucifer plasma sheathe, beam weapons)
in freespace 2 we got the same technology but then the shivans had a huge number advantage (we had 1 colossus... they had enough sathanas's to surround a sun...)

Not to mention that a single undamaged Sathanas rips a Collosus like a cola can with it's front beams.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: ars68 on November 26, 2008, 12:44:24 AM
exactly... front beams.  it was practically defenseless on the sides and rear.

if anything tho, I would surmise sathanas was built for frontal assault (for obvious reasons) whereas the coloassus was actually made as pretty much area of influence (defense, for lack of a better term)

on a side note... in the cinematic it states 10 lucifers could fit within it's massive hull... but like that was the point?  it didn't matter how big the lucifer was... it was the fact it couldn't be HURT...  perhaps they thought the beam weapons were strong enough to break through it's defenses?

No, the canon just might seem to contradict each other because not all the games are in place at the moment. They  have stated that they will also eventually release the timeline, most likely once the series has ended. In game canon is the ultimate authority, and none of that contradicts each other yet.

From what I've experienced beam weapons ignore shields on any target (I got fried by a corvette with shields on max).

No, the canon just might seem to contradict each other because not all the games are in place at the moment.

I said that their statements have contradicted each other. For example, the english manual said Link to the Past was the earliest in the timeline, but Miyamoto later said that it was after the two original Zelda games, as well as Ocarina of Time. The statement has probably been cleared up since then, but all I was saying is that there have been contradictory statements.

In game canon is the ultimate authority, and none of that contradicts each other yet.

Because there has been nearly no in-game canon over the years, at least none that really could be applied to other Zelda games, as long as you consider multiple Links.

And the morals of that story are: 1st: NEVER fly between battleships during combat.
2nd: Don't stop in the middle of a battle.

Let's see who can do it.

Because there has been nearly no in-game canon over the years, at least none that really could be applied to other Zelda games, as long as you consider multiple Links.

true, there is little in game canon. and yes, at the time of publication, ALttP was the earliest in the timeline (they were pointing out that it took place before the first two, which is does in the current timeline theory. OoT is considered the first game, as it seems to be Ganondorf's first human appearance. it is a minor theory that the original zelda might in fact be the LAST zelda game in one of the split timelines with ALttP being right before that game, as ganon is already in his beast form carrying the trident he steals in a different game, which he also has in ALttP.

And almost all game series have Canon issues, Street Fighter does, Mario did until they cleared it up. But yes, there are a few contradictory statements, but no one listens to those anyways, miyamoto likes to throw us off with random mix statements, i think he finds it fun.

anyways to answer two questions:

82. Donkey Kong Jr.
83. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia

Well, the main thing is that the people in charge did not really care that much about canon as they were creating those games. And who did care? All in all, I do not see how it matters that much how many times Mario has kicked Bowser's butt, or in what order. So long as the butt-kickings continue, everyone's happy.

Some designers did pay attention to canon from the beginning. Castlevania, for instance, has a kazillion games in its series, yet it has had relatively few canon issues. One installment was changed in its NA release and later changed back in official canon, and another installment was dropped from canon.

Oh, yes and yes, by the way.

True, as long as the butt kickign continues we all are happy. I think the big thing is new people come in and have an idea for the story that people like better, so the story changes some from the original plan, but canon then reflects differently. Sonic is a great example, how japan and america both had their own version of where it took place, and what dr. robotnik/dr.eggman's name was, but then Sega, as things began to slip downward, decided to jsut stick with the japanese plot/story, which brings us to the well known storyline today.the other story's are still canon, they just no longer fit the accepted, current storyline canon.

In conclusion, canon is what you WANT it to be, if you want it to be all 1 link, or the same retelling of a story differently, or multiple links same zelda, or whatever, you can. whatever makes the story more enjoyable for you personally.

I understand what you are saying, but you seem to be working under a different definition of the word canon.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Seither on December 14, 2008, 01:10:04 AM
no no, canon is anything official to the game.

however, telling what is/isn't canon is very hard, and varies per person usually (Sonic x tv series is a perfect example, as all sega and sonic team were involved, but have not said it IS canon, thus, some people elieve it is, some don't).

So in the end, you can make what you want to be canon, canon, be it pure in game info, things in the instructions, or all things ever relating to the series.

I'll just contribute a few questions, for the hell of it. n_n

In Killzone: Liberation, Who is the final ISA VIP targeted by that jerk, General Stratson?

Unite. Cleanse. Liberate.
(a) Which highly strategic PC game revolved around commanding three warring factions, all said to follow one of those three words (each)?
(b) Name which faction belonged to which "motto", if you'd call them that.

The PSP-2000 is also known as the "Slim 'n' Lite", or whichever slight variant you wish to use.
What was the PSP-1000 affectionately labeled by its fans?

You do not seem to understand me.

The definition of canon that I have seen--and the definition that makes the most sense to me--does not allow a relativistic interpretation anymore than actual history does.

I fully understand what you are saying, and you do not have to keep attempting to correct me on this.

I've got an ultra-hard question. Really, I doubt anyone will answer this without googling it.

Question: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl originally had several features removed, like driveable vehicles. This also included several mutants types- name one of those, other than Burer :)

Unless by some minute chance you read the books based on game (no, not Roadside Picnic) or read every possible news in the development time, this will be hard.

Yeesh, it is not that complicated. You're acting like I am speaking in Greek here.

Fictional Canon, from what I have seen, refers to the official collection of materials detailing the properties or events of a fictional universe.

You have the singular article followed by the word "official." Sometimes people substitute the word "genuine," or use canon to refer only to the materials directly contributed to the original author. The latter definition is mainly used for novels, or other materials with only one, however author.

You don't have to be so darn confrontation about it, Seither.

because the original design S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was vastly different before F.E.A.R. came out/announced. Then afterwards, suddenly the design changed tons, and was similar to F.E.A.R. It can stand on it's own, but it has a lot of similarities that can't be just glanced over...but, ya...just...no.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia

I have played them both AFB, and there are enough similarites to be noticed. Not anywhere near as bad as Oblivion/Fallout 3, but enough where you can see the two games meshing.

It's different enough to stand on its own and be a good game, which is what matters. You can't glance over the similarities, but they aren't so many that you're going omg exact copy. but playing through, to me, it was jsut too, F.E.A.R. like, which wasn't an amazing game either, just, good. Never had the impulse to play through either more than once, and not excited for F.E.A.R. 2 either.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia

Ya, they both have similar settings.

Both are set in a post-disaster area filled with radiation hazards and rabid mutants, both with emerging militant societies just trying to survive.

The most pervasive similarity is probably just the feeling that, in both games, the environment itself is one's own worst enemy. It is like reality has taken a meticulously malevolent agenda.

Games like Silent Hill have used this kind of environment to great effect. Silent Hill IV, the only one in that series that I have played, really instills a sense of hopelessness and abandonment.

In my opinion, if you are explicitly playing to simply unlock badges or trophies, then you are playing the game wrongly. Bar games designed for that sole purpose, of course.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Seither on January 12, 2009, 08:35:09 AM
this is something that is unlocked by playing the gampaign, it has nothing to do with trophies or gamerpoints (only game that uses badges i know of is Spore, and you HAVE to get those to continue through the galaxy part of game).

And it does depend on what the trophy/gamerpoint is. Like if it is for beating x part of game, killing x enemies, or doing something secret, THOSE you should play to get, as they are important to experiencing the game properly. However, if its "jump thirty times while slashing your sword and singing mary had a little lamb" then ya, pointless.

And it's definitely not EAs fault hyperion. RA3 has very very few issues. EAs really suck games are all on the consoles, and are mainly sport games beause they can't seem to understand how to properly move forward in the world of technology. EA will shape up eventually, they'e just being stupid right now.

So, just wondering, what did you guys think of Legendary?

Ya, like ten stinking years. Seriously, they released patch 1.16 just two months ago. Most developers do not support a game longer than a year or two, if (http://www.team-gizka.org/) at (http://www.planetvampire.com/bloodlines/files/patches/) all (http://jade.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=625119&forum=108).

By-the-by, patch 1.16 means that StarCraft will only use as much CPU time as it needs. Now I could play several games of StarCraft at one! ...Assuming I had more than one monitor.

All y'all's questions been put up.

Sorry I have not been keeping up with this. I have been neglecting this thread during my busy schedule. I apologize.

...Also, "most fatal flaw?".

You think that one fatal flaw would do the job, you know, being fatal and all.

Well, the thing about the Colossus experimental unit is that apart from this fatal flaw, they are prettymuch inaccessible.
This thing is like a huge terminator, that can pwn things with a beam cannon, while drawing whatever is left into its hands with a tractor beam, and obliterating it. It also crushes anything underfoot, of course. It is literally the single most powerful mobile unit in the entire game.. lol.
But, via the use of this fatal flaw, it can be beaten relatively swiftly using even Tech-1 level units.

he's making fun of how you said it. like, having a single fatal flaw wouldn't kill the device unless you attacked the MOST fatal flaw. thus fatal=not fatal sometimes?

Well, the other strategic flaws are still fatal, but are incredibly hard to get to/take forever, and entail a huge number of unit losses.
This one is simple, meaning that someone starting from scratch could be prepared to easily deal with a Colossus (with 0 losses) after just 10 minutes of growth.

Still, I suppose I could've worded the questions a little better, given that most fatal would sorta mean the one that makes it the most dead. :s
Unless you consider fatal to be the same as deadly, and have the same usage. 'Cause most deadly would sorta make sense.

I'm confusing myself and not making much sense, which isn't helping a terrible migraine.

..Someone answer theeeem ;_;

speaking of weakness's of powerful units... in the RTS/FPS MACHINES, the most powerful unit in the game, the gorilla, is seen attacking your base as early as the 6th level in the game.  however with all of the firepower they had, they also had a fatal flaw in them that made them easy to wipe out, even with units that early in the game.

what was it?

after breaking out the game again, I realized the 3rd-4th mission isn't the one... it would be about the 6th, sry for any confusion

It was officially announced in April of 1997. Anytime before then it was merely rumored to exist.

I know my Duke Nukem Forever, I've been waiting on the game forever. most recent news was january 12th, on the twitterfeed, stating devlopers often say "cutting is like shipping" and they were beginning this year with vengence and a chainsaw, take to be referencing DKF was at the end of post production, and we would most likely hear of its release date soon.

Hmm, Command & Conquer?

I know Command & Conquer was one of the first game really developed with real-time as a priority (good old Westwood, may they R.I.P.).

Dune II was their first RTS game, but Command & Conquer was when they were really trying to push it, I believe.

P.S. On a related note, support Petroglyph Games, which was founded by former Westwood employees.

And sorry Chro.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Chronos on May 14, 2009, 04:34:48 PM
They pretty much invented RTS as a genre.

What came before Dune II? Like, The Ancient Art of War, Stonkers, and Herzog Zwe? None of which even let you move units with the mouse. Dune II and Command & Conquer laid the foundations for virtually every RTS that came afterwards.

I don't know about other people, but virtually inventing a genre by creating truly epic games is enough to reserve a table in the snooty restaurant of my heart.

P.S. And ya, they do have a knack at creating RTS games even now, twenty years later.

P.P.S. Here's something scary to think about. If we hadn't of had Westwood, would we have had Blizzard (from whom only good things come)?

P.P.P.S. Westwood (and C&C) is the only reason I need to dislike EA. C&C: Red Alert 3 just does not feel like Red Alert anymore. Can't really say for C&C 3, although casting Joseph Kucan is always a good thing.

Okay you said Dune II so technically you were at least partially right.
But that posts translates either as C&C or saying stuff hoping to get a point.

PS:
Say did anyone manage to get DII working on XP/Vista?
The computer on which we had all our ancient games (mostly older than me) died several years ago.
The loss was immeasurable.

Oh and I started to dislike EA with RA2 and Renegade.
It just didn't feel like C&C with the former and the latter...well...It's a good game but...Some of the stuff should've stayed like in the beta pics.
And I heard there were supposed to be tons of unincluded features in TS too.

Oh, and RA2 and Renegade were both made by Westwood, although I suppose they were made under the careful eye of EA. I personally enjoyed RA2. I thought it did RA1 justice, but maybe that is just me.

And with regards to Dune II, have you tried DOSBox (http://www.dosbox.com/)? I've gotten a lot of mileage out of it.

Nope you dont have to you have to recode the application to use it instead of the CPU. There is a vast difference in how you code crap thought and its only really useful if you doing tasks that can be helped by dozens of threads. Such as unit pathfinding.

Title: Re: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Chronos on June 08, 2009, 11:55:01 PM
CPU's are meant for sequential processing.  GPU's are meant to run hundreds of task simultaneously. Most programs are more-or-less sequential, normally using less than twelve threads.

Of course, its all semantics, really. If the GPU every becomes the Central Processing Unit for a computer, then it is a CPU by mere definition.

With programmable shaders and what-have-you, the difference now between CPU's and GPU's really isn't all that great anymore, although GPU's normally come with a bunch of nice goodies for graphics processing.

117. Blizzard is a name synonymous with success and—to their investors—money. What happens to critters in their real-time strategy games if you click on them too many times in a row?

The Protheans and I thought they were not decedent from them, but forcible genetically modified?

The Zephmeister hasn't been on in a good two months, so I'll try and judge his questions for him.

108. That seems to be the case.

Correct.

The Intellivision, when combined with its Intellivoice adaptor, could produce barely recognizable speech (https://youtu.be/EQMOkC2BdRk). Only three games were released that made use of Intellivoice, Space Spartans, Bomb Squad, and B-17 Bomber, before the whole endeavor was declared a flop. Turns out the memory the voice files had to be stored on were too darn expensive. By the time the NES rolled out, memory had gotten good enough that they no longer had to mangle words to the edge of incomprehensibility just to get them to fit, and we end up with much cleaner results (https://youtu.be/cpd87e2PJnE).
