Title: You wonder why newbies don't stick around?
Post by: Jory on February 26, 2012, 10:01:46 PM
I have been playing for 4 days. Without any provocation, I have been attacked, and destroyed 3 times. Once while I was online, twice while I was offline!  Each time I lose more and more. At this point I have almost the same amount of resources as when I started playing 4 days ago. I know I am playing on the PvP server. BUT, it can't pay for someone to attack newbies. So why do it? You just drive people away. Initially I was interested in this game. But, since you (the players) don't give newbies a chance to get established, I am just about ready to quit. It's fun for the established players, but not for anyone else.   :atention:  :wounded1:

OK, I have enough. I used the resources I gained from voting for this place, and build a new fleet. I go out into the galaxy, and I don't even have a chance to do anything at all, I was immediately attacked. All my new ships gone, unused. I did get some money back, but why even try? Some smuck will just blow you out of the water again! This is like fishing with dynamite. Yes you get the fish, but you destroy the environment.
Why doesn't the system protect newbies until certain mileposts have been met, and after that allow PvP? Let people get established! Hiding in a nebula doesn't cut it.

When you do retry the main server, make sure you have powerships up.. that stops alot of loses. Unfortunately, there are a few that get a kick out of attacking new players.  But for every one of those there's four times as many players that will offer advise and help.

^^^ Agreed. It's typically the ones compensating for a lack of something else who pick on the nubs...

Also keep in mind that this is a PvP game.

And it takes a long time to get really good at it.

In the future, chill out.

? Did you read my note? I never had the opportunity to get really good at it. These players who prey on newbies don't give the newbies a chance to get established at all.
So... Chill out yourself.

PS... I still have my mothership here on PvP, although I don't have any ships, and don't do anything in the galaxy. I am trying to accumulate some decent funds so I can defend myself before going out again. Meanwhile, my mothership has has been attacked two more times, while offline. I am losing track how many times I have been attacked now. These attackers at this point are not getting anything at all for attacking me. There is nothing to get.
Just one more thing... I am taking names, and those who attack me during this time, and unprovoked like this, will be getting a visit from me.  :rifle:  kboom :surprise: :sniper: :11:

I agree with V and Sat.. Main is the only I play so meh :P Newbies get attacked a lot.. And they don't learn how to progress because mostly they come and go without asking for help... If they come in the chat and ask for help nearly everybody will help them! :)

P.S Ignore Coma, He's a nub ;)

I just like attacking noobs who really arent noobs.. like la resistance.. but it takes a while to get good at this game and to find out what ships to use to protect yourself

That's the thing. I have designed a couple ships that I hope will make a difference. It will just take quite a while to get enough funds to build even one.  :12:

Yeah the design section on here will help out or just ask some players that have been around.. finding out how to make good ships is probably the hardest part of the game

First things first - get a station and mine up. Then get another. Then another. Then another. Then another. Set them all to 50%/50% (mine/credits). This will give you a constant hourly income you can use to rape these nubs attacking you.

I need to get that far first. At this point I have no ships at all. And the star system I am in isn't good. Those Reavers are a pain when you can't get rid of them... yet. If I understand it, you can't mine a system, until you remove all opposition.

Its a radical idea, but get yourself known in chat, ask questions, take advice and ask someone if they are in the area and could clear some reavers for you. You might be surprised, in a good way!

Nah I joke, just take any chance I can to get a dig at Coma! ;)

SERIOUS STOOFZ

Do exactly as Fester says my friend! Anybody who is in chat will help you out.. Nearly! :P (provided the are online!)

First things first - get a station and mine up. Then get another. Then another. Then another. Then another. Set them all to 50%/50% (mine/credits). This will give you a constant hourly income you can use to rape these nubs attacking you.

V is right here too! Getting mines up is essential to your gameplay! If you can't kill reavers, just save up credits to mine resources! (if everytime you get ships they get killed.. Bide your time and save up credits from voting!) Most players in incursions will clear reavers for you if you ask nicely in chat! :)  Also if there is no incursion and you ask a player to clear reavers, try to go to the player doing it.. It will put them off if they have to spend a gazillion turns getting to the location! :)

Also.. Try messaging a few players for advice. :)
A list of players who I know for a fact will give advice:
Captain Relentless (Me! ;D)
Admiral Fury
lllSp4nKylll
V
Saturn 7
Fester
Borg!
highlandknight
Wiley Space Cadet
clarkie21 possibly:P
and finally Cameron0788 :)

(there may be more but these are the ones that are either actively playing or just checking in quite regularly)

Hope this helps! :D

-Relentless.

P.S. Possibly my longest and most helpful post on the forums thus far!

Jory. I like you. You're persistent. It's a good trait to have, and I've been needing a new padawan. If you start playing on main I'd be more then happy to give you my teachings.

As the round progresses the value of the vote rewards increases, both the number of turns received and also the credit reward, credits are now at 100,000,000 per vote ;)

Atleast I am not the one attacking or even setting you up to be attacked.
People tend to belive that I do that sort of stuff. But I dont.
The so called vets attack anyone and everyone as they know how to play the game and bend the rules to suit themselves.

Everyone here says that they will teach you something about the game. yet none of them really teach you anything about the game. This is a PVP game, everyone attacks everyone else.

If you want to learn the play the game take the advise from everyone and make your mind up as to what you are going to do.
The thing that you have to try and figure out is who is who's alt. Alt abuse is a common thing in this game, it gets reported and nothing is ever done about it. If you do not belive me then check the forum logs, they speak for themselves.

Good Morning all! I have another question... Several of you have mentioned cycles and rounds. What are they?

when someone maxes power at 9quint or 20 people join dday dday starts and you can attack anybody you want then after 24 hours of that everything is reset back to 0

Back to 0? You mean everyone in the game starts back at the very beginning... again?

I agree! Borg! is a baddie!  :P

Nah, seriously.. Don't pass up that offer.. Borg is one of the best.. :) The only thing is with being a pirate you may have NLA killing you.. Since you will be new and we want new players to do well... I won't hit you :D The rest of NLA might be as kind, but I can't make promises!:P

Res is also right... To an extent.. The people here offering help have invaluable help, yes there is a lot of PvP in the lower ranks but in the top ranks it's pretty inactive unless borg is playing lol. Yes there are a lot of alts but finding who is who is not all the game is about :)

Do we retain out mothership and the resources thereof?

If u really want to play start off with elite. Because not many ppl play it and it's the old spaceo with a few new kicks, plus you can get a feel for the game and give yourself time to build ships, build funds and have some fun, and it's easy to lvl up, also improve yourself as a player and use what you learned on the other servers.
