Forum - Space Odyssey MMORPG - a massive free online space game

I am trying to introduce my friends this game, so far, 5 signed up.

However, 2 others refused.

Their comment (and it's theirs, not mine) --- front page too wordy, not interesting. Game must be boring.

I know what they think can not be more wrong, but there _is_ a lesson here --- there are too many words on the SO front page, and for too many of us, we just got turned off by wordy pages.

My humble suggestion is: Put more pix on the top page, pix that depict space battles and/or planet attacks.

Maybe one about planet battles but don't forgot that "wordy" page is the "Storyline" for the role playing part of MMORPG  :14:

My opinion is, if there must be a story line, put it at a second page or maybe a link to the story line at the top page.

Some of the people who may sign up for SO may be turned off by all those words. In fact, I recall the time I signed up, I was just about to give up (so many words) then I saw that "Join" thingy, at the bottom of the page.

With all the words on that page, that "Join" sign isn't obvious at all.

I see where you are coming from. Maybe a good compromise is to put the entire "story" into a link called "Story"  :))

So basically the first page will have some pictures and maybe a very short description. Then you will have some links like, join now, forum, guides etc and then a link called "Story" or "About this game" where you can put all that info into.

I see your point. I had in mind to make a screenshots gallery so there would be more pictures to describe the game.

Also, the story helps with the rankings of the search engines, removing the words may affect our rankings.

Another solution would be to move the buttons including the Join in a more visible place on the top of the page.

I will see what I can do to redesign the top page.

considering its a txt based game its hard to really put pix on it...

I think Siremi idea with moving the Join button to a different postion may be best as at the top those who want to skip reading (minus the first paragraph or two) they can join, and for those who want to read all they can and when they get done have in place of the "join" button a back to top button so they can join if they chose so...

How about opening a contest for a SO skin?
