Title: A Project of Mine
Post by: Chronos on November 02, 2008, 10:58:28 PM
I've been trying to make a ye-olde-style jRPG using GTGE (http://www.goldenstudios.or.id/products/GTGE/).

This is what I have so far. No matter what option you choose, you will end up at the exit screen.

To start the program, just extract all of the files and double-click on the .jar file. If that does not work, try running some of the .bat files.

Nerd Speak:

All of the RPG-style windows are completely dynamically generated. I spent a couple hours building up an entire, easily expandable framework solely for this purpose. I'm pretty happy with it. It will allow me to build up all of my menus without requiring artistic talent.

The source files are included.

(Added:) I should probably mention that it requires JavaSE 6.0 to run.

(Clarification:) The file has been uploaded as an attachment to this post.

Either this is a very good joke, or there's a missing link.  0o

Ok, slightly odd, that's not showing..  0o
I normally have no problem with attached files..

EDIT: Ok, as I expected, when I opened this thread in IE, the attached file shows. Curse my bugging firefurry!
I'll peruse them now and rate in EDIT #2.. lol

EDIT #2: Beautiful, uh, menus. The killer plot twist/end credits made me laugh, but I most certainly did not point. n_n

EDIT #2: Beautiful, uh, menus.

Well, I am starting virtually from scratch. Due to a number of past failures, I decided to start with something easy and tangible, a.k.a. menus. I would have had a lot more finished by now, but my computer died right after I posted this. I am still getting things back together. I do still have the source code, so I do not have to redo anything.

The next thing on my agenda is creating the tile-map framework. Basically, the walking around thing. Unfortunately, creating the maps and the framework will be a little more involving than these menus. Not only will I have to simultaneously create test maps and the map framework, but I will also have to find a bunch of compatible freeware tilesets, due to my lack of artistic talent.

Not to mention, school keeps me busy.

EDIT: Ok, as I expected, when I opened this thread in IE, the attached file shows. Curse my bugging firefurry!

Hum, it shows in IE, Firefox 3, and Chrome.

Well, I do thank you for that.

Assuming the FPS in the bottom left is referring to the usual (and isn't a joke), why is mine currently measuring 63/60?

Meh, that FPS is the real measurement. 60 is what the engine is aiming for, 63 is what it is getting. The engine only keeps approximately to the set frame rate. It does not matter to much, as the game rate is generally independent of the frame rate anyway.

That's why I said my bugging firefurry. It's been doing strange things lately.
Anyway, good luck with the project. n_n

I pointed.  I laughed.  I then said wth pirate this? every rpg in existence has this same exact thing  :D

lol, jk.

the colors and feel for the menu is what I would expect from an older RPG... now all you gotta do is actually get the GAME part into the gameplay.  lol

Heh, nostalgia, I call it.

That is what I was kind of going for. I love those older style games, at least the ones with originality. Like Final Fantasy I  through CXXVXMCLI, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 2, Shining Force, et cetera.

now all you gotta do is actually get the GAME part into the gameplay.  lol

What, You do not like my new game, Xtreme MenuZ ADV DX+™?
