Title: maintenance complete
Post by: SirEmi on January 02, 2007, 06:51:59 PM
Hello everyone,

In 4 January, 2:00 AM, there will be 20 minutes of downtime, for the final stage of the server cluster developement, and testing the new Affiliate system. The affiliate system will enable the fan sites and alliances to make real money that can be used to keep their sites running, or help their alliance members with Gold account, credits, etc by converting the credit they receive for bringing new players to Space Odyssey.

A full describtion of the Affiliate system will be available on release.

Thank you.

wait... could you rephrase that?  I didn't quite catch what you meant in:

is that the fan sites helping their alliance mates get gold accounts?  or alliances keep their sites running??  when did us alliances have our own SpaceO sites???

you mean so fan sites can help keep their sites up and people who bring in affiliates can help alliance members and friends with gold account, credits and such?

by the way, I know another site that you can add to your list of affiliates, lol.  www.amall.biz
it's basically a collection of different affiliate links and such... (supposed to be a mall) I'll talk to it's owner (my father... :))) next chance I get

lol, sounds great ars, and he means you can use the money to keep your site running and/or give gold/donations to players/alliance members, however you see fit.

I have successfully added the server to the cluster, it should be faster now, please let me know if you spot anything that looks like a bug.
Affiliate program will be released shortly.

Thank you and God Speed!

yes, and the affilitae system allows us to advertise SO and make real money to support the site or to use for alliance members to get them gold or just donate.

since when was their an item transfer limit? and nicholas is right, all those reasons he mentioned are allowed for transfering credits, as they do not break ToS.

ya, that happened to me a bit ago, but on server 2....it might be cycling around, lol, spreading the lag.

It takes a little while to accomodate, let me know if it runs more slowly thanks.

Well, it lags here and there, but it's barely noticable, maybe a second or two here and there. overall, easily dealt with, so it should be fine. Great job sir emi.

Yeah it's mostly not lag, but induced slowing of the process to not overload the cluster, also a possible small wait time due to establishing a connection with the master server... the perks of running in clustered server, but if I can do this right, we should be able to support hundreds of people online hopefully...

Like I said, it's onyl noticable if you look for it, and I use the word lag meanign time from clicking the button to page loading in full. But yea, no one, not even dial-up users (who really should see an improvement in loading times now, if only slight) should complain about the lag from it now, it goes pretty smooth. And it would be awesome if we really can support hundreds of commanders all at once without noticable problems. You continue to amaze Sir Emi.

hey, there's a phrase out there for dial up users that helps tons:  pre-loading :D

you load the page once, the next time it's loaded, it goes 20 times faster and u just gotta love it :)

lol, ars. If it wasn't for pre-loading, you'd be there for a while......though hopefully your DSL will be available soon.
