*ahem*
ya, more hp may be better for new commanders, that way they don't lose them as easily, but it is not good to start a line of ships off of, unless you are planning on buying lots of them. in fact, there are several times where I will lose a mission due to not doing enough damage to the #1 fleet, even when they are 1.3 bil ships doing a 40 mil mission, and every ship is slightly slanted to more offense then hp.
as my own general rule fo thumb, to a certain extent, missions are doable anywhere where hop and attack is moderately balanced, but it is like this:
more hp, less attack: more survivability, less damage and thus lower chance of winning the mission
more attack, less hp: more chance of doing the amount of damage required, but less survivability.
however, if you go with more attack, you can take care of survivability, simply by watching how hard a mission you are doing. if you almost lose a ship to a 60 mil mission, don't go higher, (or lower, as is the case now) or try to do a little bit easier missions.

depending on where you are, lower missions can be harder then the higher ones, I think is what he is saying.
And I thought guests couldn't post topics?

yes, with some types of ships, depending on your power, they can be easier. Unless I'm misunderstanding ars68 (which is entriely possible, i'll ask next time I talk to him) that is what he is pointing out.

I know it sounds really wierd, but yes, that is exactly what I mean. it seems to me that at some point, it can actually be easier to do 2x then a 1x, but before even that, the point must be made: going by 1x and 2x can be very misleading. instead, go by actual fleet power expected.
of course... it is so random, it may just seem like it, so really hard to tell.
