Hey folks, only been playing for a few and I'm starting to look into swarm designs. I've not been able to check it out properly but does anyone how the swarm bonus works exactly?

yep - with any type of ship, if you buy enough of them you will start to see the stats get higher and higher.
the smaller the hull the more your stats get raised. with a 15 weight ship, it maxes out at about 22000 ships. at that number, the attack will be 5X more than it originally was and the hp will be 25X more than it originally was.
if you have a 1,000,000 weight hull, then at 8000 ships you will have 2.5X the original attack/def and 11 times the original hp
anything i forgot to say?

Attack is changed but accuracy is not. This means you might want to take into account the effective attack, rather than the raw attack, when deciding what accuracy percentage you want.

What's the difference between raw attack and effective attack?

Raw attack is the actual attack stats of the ship while effective attack is computed based on the ship's attack, accuracy and defender's shield abs.

raw attack = attack shown
actual attack (meaning the damage that you can potentially deal to the enemy) = attack * % accuracy
example, 100.000 is the raw attack, 10% is the accuracy. 100.000 * .10 = 10.000 damage dealt. this can change due to the enemies sheilds, but theres nothing you can do about that

I take it then the ABS% would affect the 10,000 rather than the 100,000

It actually does not matter, 100.000 * .10 * .2 = 100.000 * .2 * .10. Absorb is applied after accuracy, though. You can find the detailed battle calculations here.

okay to explain abs, it affects how much damage to actually deal to the enemy
for instance, if they have 80% abs, the maximum, then you only deal 1/5 of what your calculated attack is.
50%=1/2 67%=1/3 75%=1/4
stuff like that

From what I've seen many swarmer designs also use multiple weapons.
If you have 2 weapons systems, for example :
Weapon 1 - Att 1 ; Acu 20%
Weapon 2 - Att 17348 ; Acu 1%
How would the way that the weapons are setup affect the effective damage of the ship?

i believe the accuracies average. so that would have 11% accuracy
also, there is a deductable for every added weapon
attack = attack*.99^(number of weapons)

So it doesn't matter that one weapon has 1% and the other has 20%. The average accuracy is what is used to work out effective damage?
Just wondering as well. Nobody seems to use the Def bonus when it is %. Is anyone aware of what it does and why it's not used in S Ship design?

Defense costs a lot more than HP, but the enemy has to overcome a fleet's sum-total defense before it can destroy any ships in that fleet. Defense only beats out HP for usefulness when there are a ton of ships in each fleet, something one does not normally see with superships. Thus, people tend to design superships with HP in mind.
The defense percentage bonus, is simply a bonus multiplier over a ships total defense, thus people do not put it on ships without any defense at all.
