4.475 times your leads power is still very dangerous and it is not a killer fleet this one is called a compliant fleet.

You tried to commit suicide and it complied with your request

Aliens in my experience are more dangerous then Encounters for a given power but less dangerous then motherships missions. So you need to do lower power ones then you would with Encounters

Really Ken? 21 Telling a guy 10x your power, who's played since round #2 how to kill aliens?
... smooth.

Not telling you how to kill them I am telling you my experience on how to kill them. Writing is not something that I am very skilled at so I quite often sound like an arrogant prick.

What is you definition of a killer fleet from what I know about them their fleets of relatively low power that kill your much larger ships however since you were around back when killer fleets were more common you would know better. What do you think they are?

Eh there isnt an exact definition. Its basically a fleet of kami-like ships where for some odd reason there are an ENORMOUS number of them in a single fleet and they will often kill more than one of your ships if the lineup is right.
I knew I was taking a risk killing aliens that high, however more often then not 5x your lead and less (with max bonuses and some HP items) you wont lose ships.
If you do a cost/benefit analysis on the risks of doing over 3x your lead (typically for me, this is the guaranteed safe point), against the return from that extra 2x your lead (totaling 5x your lead FP), I have always found that the risk is worth the return. Without great risk, there will be no great reward  12
Obviously however, this is all contingent upon your chosen attack:HP ratio.
Using this formula I can typically sell my tail and upgrade to a new lead every 200-300 turns.
But everyone is different, and every play-style is different. You just have to get comfortable with something then learn how stable the aliens are at your comfort level. Obviously your comfort level is different then mine  21

The definition of 'killer fleets' was expanded to include 'tiny man' sort of designs (ships designed to be more expensive but have less power than other ships with similar strength). Most current players are more familiar with this kind of killer fleet than the 'kami' fleets like you encountered mannaman. both could be classified as killer fleets, just one is more colloquial.
but what do I know, I haven't been on main since aliens came around.

ahhh I remember when the Tinyman was first designed and literally one day everyone was banging out missions then the next Emi was replacing ships left and right because people were complaining so much...
However, I was under the impression that these are no longer a problem with Emi's fleet cost calculator update.... at least I haven't hit any in the past 2 rounds since I've returned...

yeah the seriously bad ones aren't a problem anymore, but every so often a partial-tiny man fleet crops up and sneaks through.

the only time it's a killer fleet is if

A. you get killed by a Tiny-man style ship. or
B. you get killed by a kami-hybrid.

getting pwned by a swarmer cause you went up against something almost 5x your lead is just a risk you take when you go against something 5x your lead.

a killer fleet is when you go up against something the same power as your lead and STILL die... and really... emi has put up SOOO many safeguards against that, that just never happens anymore... at least not to a lead....  (tails getting blown up happens)

What two logs had the same attack/hp and what ship in the logs? I really doubt that it was a real tinyman. So if you can post it's stats that would be helpful.
