In theory, if you have the ability to cloak your station, would your planet not also be cloaked? It seems logical to me that there should be some way to cloak your planet... be it that your station cloaking covers it, or that there be another research option....

I would think having its own research option would be best. The research costs should be quite expensive though and the minerals required to install it should be also expensive ... since cloaking a planet would be a big task.

Hmmm,
Really costly to develop the technology to cloak a planet but not impossible.
Also any commander landing in a system with a cloaked planet would have to be made aware of the planet there. The planet may be cloaked but the gravitational effects of a planet sized body wouldn't be.
You wouldn't be able to see it or interact with it but you would know it was there

hmm... valid point... was kindof hoping to be able to hide it completely though... but I think you're right about gravitational pull, etc... hmm... I need sleep.

Just because you know something is their does not mean you can find it. We all know Osama bin Laden is somewhere on the planet earth(dead or alive) but that does not mean we can find him. The same thing goes for a cloaked planet but it would be much harder to find due to the greater amount of space involved.
Due to the gravitational pull of the planet on other object we could extrapolate it's about well enough to find it. However that would take significant amounts of time to do so. Depending on the level of tech in SpaceO cloaking a planet could be useful.
Whether or not it makes any sense logically what it really comes down to is will adding cloaking planets help SpaceO or make it worse?

But Bin Laden doesn't exert anywhere near the same gravitational force as a planet, so you could be on the other side of a wall to him and not know it. (also you wont get slammed into it due to his immense gravitational pull ) To cloak a planet would require an immense amount of cloaking power, a suggestion... In order to cloak a planet a commander would need 6 or more cloaked stations in the same quadrant as the planet. This would partially hide the planets location. People would suspect a planet is nearby but not know the exact co-ordinates. To Uncloak the planet, stations would need to be destroyed until 5 or less remain. The level of cloaking of the planet would be equal to the lowest cloaked station within that quadrant. This would give an extra aspect to the game when you decide on your locations of stations.

i say there be a new thing to research.. ive put alot of thought and effort into this...
New tech: Really Big Gun Cost: 1 turn, 5 credits, 1 cp and what this does is it just blows up an enemys planet... boom.. they get nothing back and the planet is just gone...

(also you wont get slammed into it due to his immense gravitational pull ) You don't know much about orbital machines slamming into a planet by mistake is quite hard. An object moving towards a planet/black hole/sun needs to be on a very specific course or else it will just swing around it. The Bin Laden example was not meant to be a perfect match but to show that just because you know something is there does not mean you can find it.

If this was implemented, it would be nice to also see a forth control slider requiring colonists to be dedicated to running the cloaking systems; with more colonists equaling a deeper level of cloak. And the whole mention of gravity earlier in the thread gave me an idea. What if we could research how to collapse a star into a black hole, with the immense gravity reducing scanning effectiveness and warp alignment in the affected quadrants.
