Title: Screenshots of the Galaxy Project
Post by: SirEmi on May 03, 2006, 04:28:55 PM
Hello everybody,

As you know, I've been working on the Galaxy project 24/7. It's almost complete and in testing, we should have a working prototype in a week.

As you can see from the screenshoots, you will be able to move around and mine / build / protect the stars out there.
Resources will be very important, and buildings will give bonuses stakable with commander bonuses.

Here they are, feel free to comment  :19:

Of course it's for every one, Space Odyssey will always be a free game

The purpose of the Galaxy project is to bring the game to a new level, the 2D movement in space, evolving galaxy with life cycle later on, and events with life span, offer a new alternative on developing your ability to complete missions, and bring space conquer of systems and quadrants into play, rebuilding the galaxy after the disater that struk and left all the asteroids, the remains of planets, building planets or finding the very few still out there, explore new worlds, alien invasions, it will open up unlimited posibilities :)

with the 15 turns per missions that was bad...but if the galaxy will be as cool as u said...well wow !

it will be too great !!

(me too i want the base defence  :))

a little patience (may 14th) before an new great update of SO !

ya...  awesome...

hey emi, I understand what you are doing witht he farther a jump, the more turns it uses, but unless that was going in between 1 side of the universe to another, the max I would suggest any jump be is 100 turns, if that.  and that being one side of the galaxy to another.  also, how will attacking commanders farther away be affected by this?  a rival maybe 300 some turns away, that would stink.

other then that, looks cool, potentially confusing, but very cool :)

Versitility and the capacity to confuse almost always go hand in hand.

Take, for instance, say... the design feature. ^_^

wel ars my response to your questions would be simple.

i would make it were lets say commander A is in range of commander B, and commander B wants to attack, commander A and commander A is those 300 turns away it should cost commander B 300 turns to get his fleet there and the initial 15 turns that it cost to attack but thats the way i would presume it would happen jus a theory nothing more

i agree with ars about the 100 turns max
and the guide would need to have alot added to it, cause this update will make things alot more confusing

but aside from that, i think this is gonna be an amazing update

Ummm....Smee, attacking only costs 5 turns to attack, lol. That never changed. Only missions, encounters, and bounties are more then 5 turns each.

And Sir Emi, if you want, I can write the description for the guide, but I'll need someone else with the experience and know how to add it on to the existing guide. I only know a bit of basic HTML.

ya, just I was thinking, the "have to spend up to 100 (or 300) turns just to attack this person the first time"  maybe viewed by somepeople as a VERY big incentive not to attack people.  that, or just stay int heir own little corner of the universe :)  lol.  but seriously, you are going to make someone spend nearly 1/5 of the entire turns he gets in 1 day to attack someone, then the attacks, then an entire 1/5 just to go back??  that would very easily be 1/2 of all your turns that day, JUST to attack that ONE person.  of course....  then it also adds an element of not wasting your long trips :)  I think I like it now either way  :14:

the attacking stays the same as i is now, the galaxy is just prototype and you can only attack fleets that have been set by other players to protect certain resources in systems. resources are also protected by reavers, the last remains of once civilized worlds, and there are encounters poping up every day, and dispersing the next one, and they can be attacked, even if they are way less powerfull, if they are found...

to begin mining operation, you need to clear the sys of enemy reavers and other not truced fleets set by commanders
then, with resources at hand, there is no limit to how many you can have on the mothership right now, you begin construction of buildings
buildings give bonuses that are stackable with commander ones

with the idea of reavers did you get that from Serenity?

Title: Re: Screenshots of the Galaxy Project

lol, actually, reavers was also the name of a long past destroyed civilization, and main enemy, in megamen legends 2, also. not sure about first, or anyothers, but I am guessing those are same as well.

You forgot that the reaver was a weapon in an old game as well, though I forget it's name, lol.

No no, it was from Serenity, like Bugboy said.

The Reavers are humans from a colony.  The colony was getting restless so the main planet released a nerve agent in the atmosphere to calm them all down.  It worked on most of them, but a small percent were negatively affected and become ultra-aggressive and they killed all the peaceful people in the colony before building ships and taking them into space.  In Serenity they are guarding the planet where they orignally came from, so I think that is where Emi got it from.

The reavers are on a buttload of stuff, like nanodroids or mechs. :))

yea, too many players now. Btw, for anyone who is interested, we have over 700 active players. Isn't that amazing!

700 is alot man when i joined i thought that 70 was alot (in one day i went form rank 2000 to rank 64 :p)

when I joined we had less then about 50 active commanders, so you jumped up to rank 60 just by voting. But after that, climbing the ranks was near impossible.
