241  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: New accounts on Wars on: September 03, 2007, 10:11:54 AM
I don't like this idea about new people getting 'stuff' .. Sure, give them info, and make them a better player .. stick em in a Nebula for 2 weeks or whatever ... But Credits and or Command Points as freebies on a new account is just asking for someone to create a gazillion alts and abuse the system. Sure, they will get caught, but who is gonna catch them, Emi, and how? By checking logs ... Wouldn't he be rather doing something else ... like other game enhancements, rather than policing players.  15

80% of all you need to know comes from reading the forums, the other 20% is trial and error. People who can't read the forums are not going to be any better off for having a few extra Billion to play around with.  wounded1

As for ship designs .. I wouldn't go overboard .. Once you think the game is good, you pay $20 to Emi for all his hard work creating this game and maintaining it, last I heard, bandwidth wasn't free. Then they have access to a Gold Account, and most of all the ship designs, and search functions and with a basic amount of math they can reverse engineer any ship design they want or take the easy path and just clone a Gold Design.  19

Rich != Smart  laugh

Anyways, just my thoughts.  21

thats because the counter system is broken not worth the risk.

True story. Well spotted mate. :-)
243  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: New accounts on Wars on: September 01, 2007, 02:37:41 AM

10 days or 2 weeks protection on a new base is like 30 Billion or so ... It'll die the day after it comes out of protection and the player won't be much better off. It'd be far better to teach them how to play from the beginning and for them to play smart than give them a free lunch. I see swarms of alts being created to abuse this suggestion anyway ... :-(

New guys shouldn't build bases, simple as that. And if you offer advice to the contrary, then your not doing anyone any favours.

From the top players I am the only one attacking others, and that makes me grow slower then then those who dont attack.

That's not true ... :-)

I'm all for removing the turn cost associated with Tech Improvements.

If I don't play for two weeks I can afford the tech I want, cept I will be bored and go play something else ... The less you play, the less you want to play ... Vicious cycle and all that ... Remove/lower turn cost.

Good point, I can't count. I don't have 3 Trillion Workers.

You don't happen to know the Growth % rates for a given number of workers ?  1
247  General Talk / SO WARS Discussion / Re: CP v Mothership Modules. on: August 27, 2007, 12:16:42 AM
So three people have noticed its not working/displaying correctly.

Here's another one I noticed. The actual worker growth is precisely half what is lists as my percentage growth.

****************

Some fleets, that are exact clones of other fleets in all regards, have different atk %'s. Which is I think further proof that something is out of whack in the code.
248  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / New Buttons. on: August 26, 2007, 10:55:57 AM
Morph Button.

You can save multiple Blueprints for the same ship, and pressing the Morph button will switch the systems on the ship to the Secondary design. This would cut down the need to switch out systems manually, or for the lazy, allow one ship to do multiple jobs.  21

Think, Robotech/Macros etc.   15

Battlegroup Attack.

You should be able to link several of your fleets into a battle group, and then when you want to attack with this Battlegroup, just click the Battlegroup button instead of all the individual fleets.  21

Sometimes I have 20 fleets in my stack, all ships there for specific jobs, it becomes a pain to do missions with all the extra fleets out, and expensive to keep cycling them through the Reserves option.  2

ANother option along the lines of the Battlegroup, is to register several of your Fleets to Attack mode, and just by clicking on missions, Bases, Encounters etc, those fleets would all attack.  21
249  General Talk / SO WARS Discussion / Re: CP v Mothership Modules. on: August 25, 2007, 11:53:35 PM
There is no way the formula's are correct.  12

CP advancement on Stash income did nothing.  2

CP advancement on Shield Absorb did nothing.  2

And in my examples the 1% increase was applied using three different formulas.  21
250  General Talk / SO WARS Discussion / Re: CP v Mothership Modules. on: August 25, 2007, 04:34:13 PM
Before - Stash at 100 Billion, Interest is at 10%.
With Bank Fraud Program 1% + Galactic Investment Facility 1%
After Stash at 100 Billion, Interest is 10.1%. confused

Same goes for Discharge Deflection Matrix + Shield Master for ABS%. Only the Mothership Module has any effect. 21

Same for Worker Growth I think ... in fact I could almost be confident in saying CP %'s are not being added.

Also .. the documentation seems a little off. 3

As it stands now you can buy a 1% upgrade in Stash Interest, Worker Growth and Shield Absorb ... And receive 0.1%, 0.01% and 1% respectively. Not sure what to make of it ...
251  General Talk / Design & Strategy Room / Re: SO Statistics on: August 25, 2007, 03:51:52 PM
Doesn't look like the max worker equation works for SO Wars.  21

And I don't think you get any CP for missions/encounters in SO Wars. Or next to nothing. You only get Commander XP for fighting vs other players and possibly System Fleets ...

But .. This is a SO Stats thread ... :-) So good work and nicely done, I was looking for this sort of info too.  14
252  General Talk / SO WARS Discussion / CP v Mothership Modules. on: August 25, 2007, 02:06:42 PM
I don't think CP versions of the Mothership advances are working.

When you install the Mothership Modules you can see the change. The CP advances haven't registered at all. Not that I have done a CP advance for a while, but I can clearly see the Mothership Module advances and it looks like the CP advances have done nothing ?

Working as intended or a bug ?

Ok Lamma ... I guess the Blurbs from the Wiki overshadowed my comments.

Ninja Scroll - Its a Hero's journey. The main character is a Ninja. It's ultra-violent, has scenes that are definitely R18+ and in places somewhat disturbing. The fight scenes are awesome, Ninja v Ninja and Ninja v Demons. I haven't scene Wiked City by the same director, one of those tenticle sex type ones I assume from the cover.

Akira - I remember watching this pre Terminator II ... and thinking they could never nuke a city in a Hollywood type movie. It's a fast action paced adventure, with government types doing government things and weird mutants blowing the crap outa entire cities. The Hero is an average teenager with good motorbike skills and some Kung Fu. It's a clasic, well drawn, and for its time, amazing.

254  Space Odyssey Caffe / Whatever / Re: Anime on: August 22, 2007, 01:17:32 PM
Oh, if you haven't seen this, you should.

Akira (アキラ, Akira?) is a 1988 Japanese animated film co-written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo based on his manga of the same name. The movie led the way for the growing popularity of anime in the West, with Akira considered a forerunner of the second wave of anime fandom that began in the early 1990s. One of the reasons for the movie's success was the highly advanced quality of its animation. At the time, most anime was notorious for cutting production corners with limited motion, such as having only the characters' mouths move while their faces remained static. Akira broke from this trend with meticulously detailed scenes, exactingly lip-synched dialogue — a first for an anime production (voices were recorded before the animation was completed, rather than the opposite) — and super-fluid motion as realized in the film's more than 160,000 animation cels. It is regarded by critics as one of the greatest animated films ever made.

Ewww, edit.

Ninja Scroll - Another oldie ... But worth a mention. Good story, nice fight scenes ... Ninja's kicking ass. :-)

Ninja Scroll (獣兵衛忍風帖, Jūbei Ninpūchō?) is a Japanese action thriller anime, set in feudal Japan, by critically acclaimed director/writer Yoshiaki Kawajiri who was best known for his previous thriller Wicked City (Yōjū Toshi). The character designs were done by Yutaka Minowa. The movie is an homage to Ninpōchō series, ninja novels by Futaro Yamada.

Elfen Lied <- German for Elf Song apparently.

The anime series of Elfen Lied has been praised for its technical excellence in production quality, animation and color.Criticism has been leveled at both the Japanese and English dub for having sub-par voice acting in the first three episodes. Another criticism is that the series ends abruptly with some loose ends to the story that could leave viewers unsatisfied. Despite these criticisms, Western reviewers also describe the series as "really a genuinely good watch", "a horror series of exceptional merit", "certainly memorable" and "a very special show, good and bad parts taken into consideration". In the 2004 AnimeReactor Community Awards, fans voted the Elfen Lied anime as the Best Opening/Ending Combination, Best Drama, Best Thriller (Mystery/Horror), Best Fanservice and also voted Lucy/Nyū as Best Female Character. Also at the first annual American Anime Awards 2007 at New York Comic-Con, Elfen Lied was nominated for "Best Short Series".

The opening Theme sets the tone for this short 13 episode series. If you don't mind the odd bit of fan service, the story is good, the scenes are well drawn and the fight scenes are brief and bloody. Not quite sure who the good guys are for a while there.

Hellsing <- I guess the original DVDs not the series. <added to Lamma's comments>

Hellsing is unique in that it takes much of itself from late 19th century and early 20th century Western fiction. It includes themes primarily from H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu works and Bram Stoker's Dracula, rolled together with some fast-paced action sequences. The main characters are part of the Hellsing organization, which may have been inspired by the Lovecraftian Miskatonic University's Wilmarth Foundation, an organization formed for fighting demons and the undead. Cthulhu Mythos fans will appreciate the parallels. The name Hellsing is derived from Abraham van Helsing, and it has been indicated that the series takes place in the same continuity as the novel Dracula.

The series is different from many other anime/manga in that it focuses more on close-quarter combat using exotic guns, similar to the style of heroic bloodshed, with lots of jumping and diving.

Studio GONZO drew the thirteen-episode TV series intensely stylized and matched with an extensive soundtrack, scored by Yasushi Ishii, which mixes rock, blues and jazz with experimental elements.

This is Anime legend.

Awesome, well drawn, very stylish. Open theme music is very catchy. Too cool for words. A different take on the Hellsinge v Dracula relationship, set in the present. Expanded into a series which didn't appeal to me.

Princess Mononoke. - Mononoke is the third most popular anime movie in Japan of all time. :-)

It is a jidaigeki (period drama) set in late Muromachi period of Japan, and centers on the struggle between the supernatural guardians of a forest and the humans who need its resources, as seen by the outsider Ashitaka. "Mononoke" (物の怪, "Mononoke"?) is not a name, but a general term in Japanese for a spirit/god/monster of the natural world.

A feature length movie. Well drawn, nice story. Kinda Depressing. The good guys all die.

My comments + Wiki comments.

Awesome thread, keep it up.
