Title: Inappropiate ship names
Post by: PDJ on October 19, 2006, 12:34:08 AM
in a recent exchange of hostilities found the following:

Defender VeeDee (#5234)

Engaged Units
Fleet Name    # of Units    Attack    Defence    Hitpoints
Assasinator 1    ??????    24754419    0    41524816
<b>Baldthingy 2    ??????    5937439    0    9847672
Baldthingy 1    ??????    5937439    0    9847672
Baldthingy 3    ??????    5937439    0    9847672</b>
MaryHinge 1    ??????    3223582    0    3951661
MaryHinge 2    ??????    3707119    0    3951661

Also found "SilkyMuff" on another attack

I suggest that ToS covers these and filters could also apply to ship names.

Cheers,
PDJ  :P

Didn't notice the filter had substituted thingy for 4 letter word starting with t that can also mean an idiot used also to imply female genitalia....

Some names I agree shouldnt be allowed, but there are words that have more than one translation. Some people just shouldnt read too much into the meaning, just because your thinking the word means that doesnt mean other people are.

I have:
Silver Freak Fest
Silver Finger Lickin'
Silver Chicken Choker
Silver Beheader
Silver Kill'em All
Silver thingy
Silver Wing
Silver Banger
Silver Disrespectful Women
Silver Slurp
silver Thigh
Silver Licker
Silver Teeny
Silver Breast

and many more, they might mean one thing to you, but you dont know why I gave my ships those names and Im sure they have a different meaning for me than they do for you if you read too much into it.

Ah... what's to be said. If you don't like the ToS, say so. If not, take your own advice.

unless it has reall abuseing word "the f word" or relates directly to sex in a completly dickusting matter, i really dont see a problem in these sexual indoendos, (cant spell as you can tell...) most kids wont even understand what i means, you have to reamber that... for exsample.. if you said to a 6 year old "cheak out my Boomstick" there thing its a stick, that booms, not the other thing...

i agree with lammalord...its all about impying and infering. :21:

if one person means something to be like some cool space related thing

and someone else infers that they are implying something else, then it isn't really an innapropriate ship name is it?

I completely agree... but remember that if I say "Sad old f*g" or "pathetic Sod" most people do not think of an ancient cigarette  or a compassion inspiring piece of land, do they?

If someone (or several members of an alliance) has a list of ships all referring to colloquial names for genitalia, please don't expect me to believe it's a coincidence :D

I appreciate that Mist is normal english and not particularly elegant german or puta may seem a typo (but don't call your spanish-speaking girlfriend one)... simply calling for a bit more care when selecting names. Thats all.

Cheers, PDJ

Also filters aren't perfect. What's your "thingy" called?
(I mean the ship between Kill'em all and Wing of course...)

thingy - another name for a rooster / chicken

I totally understand what you are saying about the names and some people go way overboard on the names which makes me assume that they are young and immature, or just old and bored like me :))

Silver Finger Lickin'
Silver Chicken Choker
Silver thingy
Silver Wing
silver Thigh
Silver Breast

got their names because I just got back from KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken)

Well, thank god all the VD names are gone..who could forget ghonnoreah, or syphillus.  If those names arent TOS sensitive then nothing is.
BTW, vulgarity is region sensitive.   Sod off means two things to Brits and Yanks.

I hate the space that d**n picture takes up on the screen

i've see that picture couple times, it cracked me up every time also  :))

never thought that anyone would able to input the picture into the mission contracts. i noticed there are some names that have colours to it...i wonder how is that possible?  i would like to do that to my ship names too  :P

lol  :))

What a weird name

......................................................... :21:

I wonder if a 1000*1000 would fit on a ship name

omg...I never tried to put a picture in as the name of a ship...I'll give the inventor of that ship credit for creativity, but that definantly has to go and be stopped. It's bad enough people can use color tabs without closing them.....but this.....this could get much worse, real fast.

noone else has be able to make another ship, and that one is well the only ship named a picture, sure is annoying...

Well the picture gives a surprise every once in awhile, instead of seeing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. (gets boring dosen't it?)  And with a picture of colored text It could look like this.

Over and up and down and left and right and up and left and right and down. GIves it a little more creativity instead of seeing the same d**n thing over and over again you really couldn't tell what the mission would hsow.

i find names like those and "baldtwat" highly offensive and rude. but what am i going to do about it ? well if i run into them there will be some very STRONGLY worded e-mail sent. other than that - nothing. because there is nothing else i can do. todays word. pragmatic.

I use images as ship names a little, but those images are small, like (http://i3.tinypic.com/43z8sw3.gif), or aliance icon.

Not long time ago it was possible to mess a lot with ship name, now its limited, or maybe removed. Still i can do what i show in images below. However ship name is quite long, so probably its not a threat. With private messages it might be possible to do some mess through.

Ill reported some time ago to do something with script tags, it was fixed, but there is still some possibility to include some javascript :sweat
If someone is still not protected from windows jpg bug, it is possible to run some application on his pc, but thats whole different story :P

There is clean and efficient way to allow only selected tags L:)
ie:
echo strip_tags('<p style="color:red;"><b>Something</b><script></script></p>', '<p><b>');
will output
<p style="color:red;"><b>Something</b></p>

However it still allow adding javascript in other way...

I can also do something really ugly :P (ship above Test made that)
