Now, now, shouldn't moderators be, like, neutral or something?

This ain't a democracy. It's not even a dictatorship.

It's a bureaudemacrepubliocracy.

8 Weight works best for weapon systems, when you can spare it. Link'd

ACU is a quite a bit more complicated. You can see the formulae I've used for superships here.

Which ones have you played so far?
80  Space Odyssey Caffe / Whatever / Re: Diablo II LOD Ladder Reset and Patch 1.13 Tommorow on: March 27, 2010, 06:01:13 PM
Considering I still play Final Fantasies 1-10, X2, and 12 occasionally, somewhat worse graphics don't really bother me. Though, I suppose I would have bought it on the PS3 if I had one.

*requests an option for "who gives a f**k!?"

That option falls under "Not Voting," good sir. Posts are divided into threads so that people who don't care don't have to look at them.

Respecing and blit-scaling? Holy-wow.
83  Space Odyssey Caffe / Whatever / Total Annihilation on: March 03, 2010, 09:25:59 PM
Total Annihilation, one of GameSpot's Greatest Games of All Time, was a 3D real-time strategy game back when real-time strategy games weren't in 3D. This was one of the RTS's I really liked back in the day, and now it's available from Stardock on Impulse for only $10. It's a true piece of RTS history, if I do say so myself.

Is that title a amalgamation of happiness and joy, eclipsed only be the heavenly chorus no doubt resounding in your head?

Or is it just confusing?

Either way, this is one of the most important things to happen... evar!

This might just be me, but I would put most of my money into one ginourmous ship. I'd do some safer missions to help pay it off, then I'd start climbing up in difficulty. This'll reduce the over-time attrition of your ships, though a big fleet could still wipe you all out at once.

If you don't want to risk a slow recovering, you could build a ship that costs a lot less and then play with that for a while to play around a bit. Just keep in mind, if a mission'd destroy a big ship, it'd probably wipe out a bunch of little ships totaling the same cost.

Of course, I'm probably not your most reliable source for information..
87  General Talk / Design & Strategy Room / Re: PSHIP questions from newbie on: January 06, 2010, 05:18:17 AM
The sole purpose for powerships is to get blown up, letting you escape into a nebula. The more power your powerships have, the faster you can get into a nebula. Their weapons won't actually kill anything, but they still do provide fleet power... a lot of it.

Putting hitpoints on them would just be counterproductive.

They're almost to $100,000! That can only be described as... hunormous.
89  Space Odyssey Caffe / Whatever / Desert Bus for Hope on: November 22, 2009, 03:41:25 PM
Did you know that Desert Bus is a game where you have to drive from Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada—in real time—on a road with no scenery and in a bus with no passengers that veers slightly to the right at all times, and if you go off the road you get towed back to Tuscon—also in real time—and that there is no way to pause?

Did you also know that there's a group called Desert Bus for Hope that does a Desert Bus marathon to raise money for Child's Play, a charity run by the people behind Penny Arcade, that buys games for sick children?

If so, then what are you doing around here? Go donate to Desert Bus for Hope and sustain their misery help the sick children!

Well, I guess you could grow a lot of tobacco and try to give them all lung cancer.
