I like people...but it takes so long to cook one.

Here is an attempt at a story. Hope you enjoy it. Chapter 1 “Navigation, why have we dropped out of hyperspace early? We can’t be at our destination yet.” says an irate Ramagar. They were already late with delivering their cargo and he didn’t want any more delays. “Sorry, Ramagar. We were detecting some odd n-space readings, so we dropped out just to be safe.” replies Andrew, who is the head of Navigation. “What do you mean by ‘odd n-space readings’? Surely it wouldn’t have affected us in any way.” “These readings are the same as the ones that the Hauler transmitted before we lost contact with it.” The Hauler was a private transport ship who was in Ramagar’s employ. During what should have been a routine cargo run, the Hauler detected some odd readings in n-space but decided to keep going. They transmitted the reading to Ramagar’s secret base to be analyzed. The Hauler never made it to her destination. The last transmission received from the Hauler said that their hyperdrive was acting odd… “And you are saying that those readings is what caused the Hauler to be lost?” asks a slightly disbelieving Ramagar. “Yes, and—” “Kyle here. Our hyperdrive is acting odd. Diagnostics are showing us nothing wrong, but it is beginning to hum. And it’s getting louder. Oh, sh—” An explosion rocks the entire mothership. Chapter 2 “Kyle? Come on, Kyle, wake up. You’re in Medical right now. You are a lucky person to have survived an explosion like that.” says Ramagar as he leans over Kyle. “Oh, my head...What happened?” asks a dazed Kyle. “You were in an explosion. Seems like something caused the hyperdrive to blow up. As I said, you are lucky to be alive.” As Ramagar and Kyle are talking, Andrew enters the room. “I need to talk to you, Ramagar. Now.” “Alright. I’ll be back later, Kyle.” Ramagar says as he turns to face Andrew. “We are screwed. Officially screwed. Not only is our hyperdrive blown to tiny bits, but it destroyed our n-space drive as well. We are currently drifting through space.” Andrew informs Ramagar as they are walking through the corridors of the mothership. “Great. We a sitting duck for any raiders…or any Alliance that might come this way,” says a rather frazzled Ramagar. “Normally, true. But we are in a section of space that has not been explored before, so we don’t have to worry about raiders or any Alliances attacking us. Unfortunately, that also means that we are stuck here until we get a new n-space drive. Long-range sensors have detected a large mass of something about a days drift away. We are unable to determine what it is at this time.” Andrew says. “Could it be an abandoned mothership? If it is, we could salvage the n-space drive and the hyperdrive from it.” “We could, but as I said, this is an unexplored region of space. The odds of it being a mothership are not good. But, if it is a mothership, then yes, we could salvage the drives from it.” One day later… “Is that what I think it is?” asks a stunned Andrew. Ramagar could only stare at the beautiful site that lay before them. It was no mothership, but something far more valuable. They have found…a planet.
