The reward for the aliens builds up in time, if you get a lower reward on one alien, you may get a higher or even a very high one on the next alien.

So there are aliens that will drop a low, medium, high, very high, extremely high number of items.
Maturity does increase the chances of more items, but all maturities can get the above categories.

Guess that one was a low number.
