how do i kill ships? do i have to kill all its life in one fleet or can i have a group of fleets kill it?

That depends you see, on how many fleets an enemy has. concider this: you have 5 fleets, enemy has 1-

your fleet 1 vs enemy fleet 1
Your fleet 2 vs enemy fleet 1, etc.

If an enemy has more than one than it will be like :

your fleet 1 vs enemy fleet 1
Your fleet 2 vs enemy fleet 2, etc.

no i mean damage to life that has to be dune say thay have 1 fleet and i have five can each of thows five do 1/5 of the damage needed or duse the first fleet have to do all of it ro kill the ships?

I believe they can all do 1/5 of the damage. But the enemy ships will be repaired if you attack him again.

absorb plays a role too, as well as defence...

if your ship has 1 billion attack points and my ship has 1 billion hitpoints but 80% absorb then you would not be able to defeat that  ship.

but if you have 5 billion attack and my ship has the same hp and absorb as before you should be able to destroy it...
